Quest Language Studies, Toronto:
Quest Language Studies is an award-winning English language school in the centre of Toronto (2 minute walk from Bay subway), Ontario in Canada. We offer a wide range of English courses to students from around the world, including General English, Business English and preparation for the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC and Cambridge CAE exams. We also offer academic pathway programs for students who wish to enter a college or university program in Canada as well as paid and unpaid business internships.
English Courses in Toronto:
Core English Program - 25 hours per week (15, 20, 30 hours optional):The Core English program is our foundation program and provides training in all language skills based on a communicative methodology. Our Core English Program starts every Monday and is open to students over the age of 16. Students can choose to study for 1 - 48 weeks. The aim of the program is to improve your overall language skills recognizing the strong link between knowledge of grammar (taught in a communicative fashion) and oral communication skills. The program takes a comprehensive approach to learning practical English with emphasis on speaking, pronunciation, writing and listening skills.
Courses are offered from the beginner through to advanced levels - 10 levels in total. To ensure progress, you will be tested on a weekly basis and provided a monthly evaluation report. Successful evaluations will enable to proceed to the next level every 4 to 5 weeks.
Exam Preparation Courses:
- TOEFL Test Preparation:
The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required for entrance to most North American universities and colleges by non-native English speakers. The Quest TOEFL program will prepare you to meet the requirements of the TOEFL exam. The course emphasizes the four main components of the TOEFL: listening comprehension, grammar structure, written expression, and vocabulary. In addition to your primary text you will work with a variety of material, including audio exercises and computer programs to ensure your success on the TOEFL.
- TOEIC Test Preparation:
The TOEIC (Test of English for international communications) is recognized internationally for measuring English language proficiency in the workplace. As such, it is an ideal program for people in or entering the world of business. The course is based on the requirements of the TOEIC exam and focuses on the development of language skills (utilizing audio/visual and computer methods) essential for effective everyday communication in the world of business. In addition, students may choose to have classes on computer and Internet vocabulary included in their course. Customized courses for corporate clients in a variety of fields are also available. Students who intend to take the TOEIC test are taught test taking strategies and given sample exams for practice.
Note: Quest is a certified TOEIC Testing Centre.
IELTS Exam Preparation:
IELTS tests the complete range of English language skills which will commonly be encountered by students when studying or training in the medium of English. This program ensures that you have the English knowledge and test preparedness required to excel on the IELTS. In addition to your primary text you will work with a variety of material, including audio exercises and computer programs to ensure your success on the IELTS.
Non-test review classes on grammar, vocabulary and writing will ensure that you have a solid foundation for the exam. Skills and strategies for each of the sections of the test are provided with clearly defined steps to improve performance on the test. Complete tests, in both paper and computer format for the IELTS, will allow you the experience of taking the actual exam.
Cambridge CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) Exam Preparation:
The CAE tests advanced English for writing, reading, grammar, listening and speaking. Quest's course will prepare you for all these areas to will ensure that you have a solid foundation for the exam. Skills and Strategies for each of the sections of the test are provided with clearly defined steps to improve performance on the test. Complete tests, in both paper and computer format for the CAE, will allow you the experience of taking the actual exam.
Business English Diploma Course:
The International Business English Program aims to develop your English skills for communication in the world of business and commerce. It will enable you to improve your vocabulary, writing and listening abilities so that you may effectively function in business situations involving face to face meetings, making presentations, writing correspondence, negotiating and even social gatherings and business lunches.
As part of the program you will meet with local and international corporate leaders, visit workplaces and international trade centres such as the Toronto Stock Exchange, learning the language etiquette involved in meetings and business lunches In addition, you will learn about North American business customs and practices and vocabulary for your particular field of work or study.
Career Advantage Internship programs (both paid and unpaid):
Our Career Pathway Programs (CPP) organises paid and unpaid internship programs (work experience placements). Students are placed with established Canadian and international companies based on their educational background, work experience and career objectives.
Our internship programs provide students with the unique opportunity to study English and gain valuable work experience in an English speaking work environment. This will improve their English skills and enhance their career opportunities. Students are monitored throughout the entire program to ensure a successful internship.
Academic Pathway Program (University / College Preparation Course):
The Quest Academic Pathway Program is your gateway to the higher education you need for the career you want. It is a 12 to 16 week course that aims to develop your English language skills to a new level of excellence in preparation for academic success in your field of study. Upon successful completion of the Academic Pathway Exit Test and related requirements, students may then enter into a wide variety of programs at partnering institutions. Students require a high - intermediate level of English - Quest level 7. Entry test required.
Conversation Plus Program:
Conversation Plus emphasizes the study of cultures and lifestyle, and the improvement of your fluency in English. Classes include daily practice in speaking, listening, and reading with limited time spent on grammar. At the beginning levels, you will learn how to perform important language functions, such as how to ask for and give information and directions. Practical topics are used as the basis for discussion, such as how to order in a restaurant, how to rent a car (or surfboard!), and how to use the telephone.
At higher levels, the program deals with more complex issues, including current events and culture issues. The emphasis at the advanced level is on fluency and accuracy. News programs, music, and films are used in addition to English-language teaching materials. At all levels visits to a courtroom, the stock exchange, TV show tapings, cafes and museums are examples of typical class trips that will help you to practice your English in real life situations.
Canadian Chat Buddy Program:
You can greatly improve your English skills by signing up for our optional Canadian Chat Buddy program (max. 5 students per Buddy) which will help you to practice your conversational skills outside of the classroom and become familiar with Canadian life through a variety of social activities. IMPORTANT: You cannot register only for the Chat Buddy program - it can only be taken in combination with another full-time core English program.
Teacher Homestay English Immersion (live with your English teacher):
This program allows students to live in the home of their own qualified English teacher. This is the ideal program for students who want to experience full English language immersion. They will live a “Canadian life” interacting with their host family in a totally English-speaking environment. In addition, they receive private, intensive English lessons 15 hours per week from their own teacher in his or her home.
Summer Youth Program for Teenagers 13 - 19 years:
The Quest Summer Program provides students with a unique learning holiday experience by combining up to 6 weeks of ESL study with a variety of quality recreational activities. The program's goal goes beyond teaching English to include the expansion of horizons, the learning of new skills and the making of new friends. Every student, we hope, will leave with an experience to last a lifetime.
