KinderHaus German Immersion Kindergarten:
KinderHaus is a full-time German immersion KinderGarten based in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Park Slope is a neighborhood in the western section of Brooklyn, New York City's most populous borough. KinderHaus serves NYC's local and international community. We provide a private day school program serving preschool kindergarten through pre-kindergarten and community wide programming, including German language immersion, afterschool classes, summer camps, mini holidcay camps and enrichment classes for preschoolers to elementary students and other multicultural events.
All our programs are in full German immersion:
- Preschool / Kindergarten: 2-3 years old
Our children learn and play in a structured environment, which includes circle time, movement, music, art, role play, free play and outdoor exploration in the park and the backyard. Time - 8:30am - 3:00pm (afterschool option until 6pm).
The age-specific curriculum includes:
Language and literacy - phonological awareness, comprehension, concepts about print, and alphabet knowledge.
Mathematics and Science - classification, seriation, spatial thinking, number, space, and time
Social skills – enables children to solve problems with their emerging verbal and critical thinking abilities
Creative & Dramatic Arts – promotes both creating and appreciating art and role play
Movement - promotes energizing the body and coordination
- Pre-Kindergarten: 4-5 years old
Children will be taught to develop skills that form the foundation for reading, writing and mathematics.
In pre k class we will work on developing basic math and language skills and will discover the world around us by asking questions and exploring. We will use the outdoors as our extended classroom and will spend as much time in the Kinderhaus backyard, the park and in the neighbourhood as we can.
All our subjects are connected, so if our subject is fairy tales we will learn about traditional German fairy tales and act them out in language class, work on a fairy tale forest mural (Maerchenwald) in art class, count fairies and witches and will make items for our fairy tale forest out of geometrical shapes in math class and will learn about the German forests and forest animals in science class.
- Afterschool Programs:
Pre-Kindergarten: 4-5 years old / Elementary: 5 - 10 years old
The daily afterschool program is filled with activities which encourage the active language acquisition in your child, imbedded in themes that follow the seasonal calendar. It will include creative and dramatic arts, music and movement. Children can engage in Role plays, Pantomime and Acting games, piano and cooking. Our warm and nurturing environment will enable them to express themselves, build confidence and collaborate in a team environment. All skills that enhance their effectiveness in today's world and builds fun, feelings and excitement.
Also for elementary: 5-10 years old (Reading / Writing)
This program stimulates and augment’s a child’s ability to sound letters, read simple texts & print words in German for the beginner student and understanding grammar, spelling and German sentence construction for the more advanced student.
Summer Camp Programs:
Join us for a great 2011 summer of learning and fun at the KinderHaus SummerCamp. Located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, KinderHaus German Immersion Summer Camp is open to children 2 to 7 years old. It is conducted in a full German speaking environment, with the focus on developing a child's language abilities and all summer camp teachers are native German speakers. Class sizes would not exceed 12 children with 2 teachers. Children visit local parks or the backyard playground, with field trips such as horse back riding.
