If you wish to venture further afield, within less than an hours drive you could explore the medieval cites of Angers, Vitré or Rennes. The closest airport is Rennes which is a 1hr drive. St Malo/Dinard is 2hrs drive, Paris is 3 to 4hrs drive. There is a fast train (TGV) that runs between Rennes and Paris, stopping at Laval train station.
