FIU School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Miami:
Situated in North Miami, The Florida International University's (FIU) School of Hospitality and Tourism Management provides some of the highest ranked Hospitality Degree programs in the Southeast United States. We offer both on-campus and distance learning hospitality and tourism management degree options, as well as certificate programs in various Hotel, Restaurant, Hospitality, Beverage Management, Event & Meeting Planning, and Travel & Tourism specializations at the school.
On-Campus Degree Programs:
- Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management:
Applicants to the School must submit an Application for Admission to the University and must follow the regular University admission procedures. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the University before receiving admission to the School. A minimum TOEFL score of 500 written or 63 ibT is required for international applicants.
Degree Requirements:
- Degree Program: 120 credit hours
- Lower Division Preparation: 60 credit hours
To qualify for full admission to the upper division program, FIU undergraduates must have met all the lower division core requirements, including CLAST, have completed 60 lower division credit hours, have a minimum 2.0 GPA and must be otherwise acceptable into the program. Transfer students should complete a minimum of 60 semester hours with a 2.0 GPA. All University Core Curriculum and CLAST requirements must be completed prior to graduation from the University.
- Combined Bachelor / Master of Science in Hospitality Management:
Admission:
- Current enrollment in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management at FIU.
- Completed between 75-90 credit hours of course work with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
- Students must submit the 4+1 application by the first semester of the senior year with a recommendation from the graduate academic advisor, Dr. Newman
This program is designed for outstanding undergraduate students. This new program allows students to pursue a Master’s degree in Hospitality Management while completing their Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management. Students may take advantage of the overlap of courses in the BS and MS programs.
The combined BS / MS program accelerates completion of the Master’s degree in a shorter time period. This program is for the Hospitality Management B.S./M.S. program only.
- Master of Science in Hospitality Management:
Applicants to the School must submit a Graduate Application for Admission to the University and are required to follow the regular University admission procedures. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the University before receiving admission to the School.
Degree Requirements - To be eligible for a Master’s degree, a student must:
- Satisfy all University requirements for a master’s degree.
- Complete a minimum of 39 semesters credit hours of graduate level course work in the Hospitality Management curriculum.
- Earn a minimum grade point average of ‘B’ (3.0) in all approved courses in the student’s graduate program of study.
- No courses, in which a grade below ‘C’ is earned, may be counted toward the Master’s Degree. However, all approved work taken as a graduate student will be counted in computing the grade point average, including courses graded ‘D’ or ‘F’.
- Master of Science in Hospitality Management - Executive Program:
Admissions standards for the Master of Science degree in Hospitality Management and Tourism Studies are an earned 4-year bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 written or 80 iBT is required for international applicants.
An applicant who feels the earned GPA is not indicative of his or her ability to be successful in a graduate degree program may also submit scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) which will be taken into consideration by the admissions committee in its evaluation of the application. Official GRE or GMAT scores are required for students with below 3.0 GPA.
Degree Requirements:
To be eligible for an Executive Track Master’s degree, a student must:
- Satisfy all University requirements for a master’s degree (a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required).
- Complete a minimum of 30 semesters credit hours of graduate level course work in the Hospitality Management Executive Track curriculum.
- Earn a minimum grade point average of ‘B’ (3.0) in all approved courses in the student’s graduate program of study.
- No courses, in which a grade below ‘C’ is earned, may be counted toward the Master’s Degree. However, all approved work taken as a graduate student will be counted in computing the grade point average, including courses graded ‘D’ or ‘F’.
- Ph.D. in Business Administration:
The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers a Ph.D. program in conjunction with the College of Business at Florida International University. The Ph.D. students in this program will be admitted in the Ph. D. program of College of Business. They are required to take all the required courses of International Management at the College of Business.
They can take two elective graduate courses from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. They will conduct a dissertation in the area of hospitality and tourism management (24 credit hours). Upon the completion of the program, the student will obtain the Ph.D. degree in Business Administration with concentration in International Business Management.

- Travel and Tourism Management – 36 credit hours
- Event and Meeting Planning – 30 credit hours
- Joint Certificate in Tourism Marketing Communication – 18 credit hours
One- Semester Programs:
- Hospitality Administration – 15 credit hours
- Travel and Tourism Administration – 15 credit hours
- Wine and Beverage Management – 15 credit hours
- Hospitality Studies – 15 credit hours
*Non-Degree
The undergraduate certificate programs are open to all students with a high school education and experience in the industry. An international student candidate must submit a minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL exam (63 iBT) and a Declaration and Certification of Finances document.
Graduate Programs:
- Graduate Certificate in Hospitality Management (*Non-Degree)
* Students may enroll for a maximum of one semester; international students are not eligible for this program
