Dublin Institute of Design, in central Dublin, Ireland, is a leader in the field of design offering a range of certificate & diploma courses in 3D Design, Interior Design, Digital Design, Computer Aided Design, Visual Merchandising & Retail Design and Personal Image & Styling. Our courses will suit a range of people including those with design experience looking to add to their skills, through to Leaving Certificate students looking to pursue professional level qualifications. Most of our courses are offered as both day and evening courses to accommodate today’s busy lifestyles.
2 Year Diploma Programmes:
Graphic Design & Advertising:
The course provides students with an internationally recognised professional level qualfication. Through Graphic Design, the student will learn to solve problems creatively by combining words and images across a variety of print and digital media. With a strong foundation in observational drawing and image making, the student will develop skills to produce innovative design solutions using illustration, typography and photography.
Interior Design:
This intensive two-year programme is aimed at school-leavers and mature students alike, who want to select and build a career. Important emphasis on this programme will be delivered through computer applications and supported by a choice of business modules to expand career choices and job opportunities in different sectors including: Retail Merchandising, Retail Display, Interior Design (domestic and commercial), Project Management and IT Specialisation.Product Design:
Product Design is an important design skill that enables companies to develop products that combine aesthetics and function with technology and economics. A product designer is involved in the development of almost every tangible product on the planet from aircraft to cutlery. Their creative ability combines with technology to develop product designs that can be brought to market as attractive, marketable and successful products.
1 Year Certificate Programmes:
Graphic Design & Advertising:
The fundamentals of design are learned through a series of design based lectures and studio projects exploring still & life drawing, illustration, and typographical studies. Through a range of media and computer applications the student will learn colour theory, history of design, typography, illustration, technical drawing, psychology & philosophy and 2D and 3D design.
Interior Design:
This 1 year full or 1 year part time course enables students to apply their skill to the domestic market - apartments, bed-sits housing estates and individual homes, prepares students for a range of job opportunities and career choices.
Product Design:
The programme is delivered across 10 units, all of which need to be completed to achieve the HNC qualification. The course runs for the length of the academic year and students are required to work on projects during the summer for submission in August. The programme contains a significant amount of real world project work and requires a commitment outside of class hours.
Associate Diploma Courses:
Associate Diploma in Web Design & Development:
The course provides an excellent grounding in the key skills required by Web Designers. By the end of the course students who complete the course will have built their own multi page website. Right from the very first class students will start building their own website. This course is suitable for those with or without experience in the Web Development and Design industries.
This course is monitored through continuous assessment and project work. The course is certified by the Dublin Institute of Design and FETAC. On successful completion of this programme you will receive a Dublin Institute of Design Associate Diploma in Web Design & Development and the FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Creative Media.
Associate Diploma in Graphic Design:
This practical course will give students an excellent grounding in the key skills required by Graphic Designers. The Certificate in Graphic Design has been specifically developed to teach participants the process of Graphic Design and how to use the main Adobe software applications to create and manipulate computer images and designs. This course is suitable for those with or without experience in the Desktop Publishing, Advertising, Web Development and Design industries.
Associate Diploma in Interior Design:
This intensive part-time programme is designed to provide an excellent grounding in Interior Design elements and principles. The programme focuses on Residential Interior Design and involves a blend of theory, guest speakers and real world project work. Successful graduates are likely to take on design commissions and consultancy projects for domestic clients.
