American Language Institute, California:
The American Language Institute is located at the University College and Extension Services, California State University in Long Beach in Los Angeles County, Southern CA. The main program of the American Language Institute (ALI) is an intensive English language program which hich offers six levels of instruction year-round. Experienced faculty in small, interactive classes emphasize preparation for academic work at the college or university level.In addition, short-term programs are available in spring and summer for students with less time to study. The first California program to be accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), the ALI provides a full-service program on a vibrant campus. Students at the upper levels can mix and take classes with CSU Long Beach students for a more well-rounded collegiate experience.

Intensive English Program:
This program is offered three times a year: Fall, Spring, and Summer. In each session, the curriculum emphasizes preparation for academic work at a college or university. Small, interactive classes are taught by a well-qualified faculty. Students may begin in any of the three sessions and continue year-round. New students take the ALI placement test during orientation to determine the most appropriate level of study in the program.

One session lasts from 12 weeks (summer) to 15 weeks (Fall and Spring) and must be completed successfully to advance to the next level. At the end of each session, certificates are awarded at a term-end ceremony to those who have completed the level with passing grades.
