Green Jobs Training Center, Queens:
Located in Howard Beach, Queens in New York City, Green Jobs Training Center (GJTC) offers a range of Building Performance Institute (BPI) training programs and certification exams. Our aim is to provide the best training available in order to prepare our students for a new Green professional career. We have expertise in building sciences, energy efficiency, health and safety, renewable energy, state utility programs for residential and commercial buildings, and much more. Our broad experience gives us a unique perspective on how to train and educate all workers as green job candidates.

Building Performance Institute (BPI) Training & Certification Exams:
Our training covers all areas of energy efficiency via workshops, industry conferences, on-site training, and other innovative education techniques. We offer wide-ranging expertise in state-of-the-art energy efficient building science methods, equipment and materials.

Building Analyst Training (BAT) Program - 5 days:
This low-cost training program is designed as an entry level course for Green Jobs and energy efficiency improvements in primarily residential buildings. Following completion of this course, participants will be eligible to take the BPI written / online exam and field exam. The costs of the exams are included in the instruction fee. The program will cover:

- Understanding the fundamentals of building science
- Identifing and understanding building performance problems including ice dams, mold and mildew, and indoor air quality issues
- Applying “blower door,” combustion safety and other diagnostics for assessing air leakage and efficiency in buildings in a practical manner.
- Analyzing buildings using “Blower Door” technology and other diagnostic equipment
- Assessing building tightness, mechanical and distribution systems and combustion safety for a “whole house” performance-based approach

Envelope Professional Training (Shell Training) - 4 days:
This training includes both classroom sessions and hands on field experience that prepares candidates for the nationally recognized certification of BPI’s Envelope Professional. The training consists of an overview of Health and Safety, Insulation Techniques & Applications, Advanced Blower Door Applications, Indoor Air Quality Assessment, and other topics related to improving building envelope efficiency through diagnostic testing.

Upon successfully passing the written and field performance evaluation exams candidates will be qualified to analyze and recommend the appropriate whole house remedies. Qualifying candidates may make special arrangements to take both BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Professional tests simultaneously.

BPI Heating Professional Program - 5 days:
Using a “whole house” performance-based approach, this training will cover advanced heating system diagnostics, evaluation, and repair skills to help you prepare for the Building Performance Institute’s Heating Professional on-line and field exams. Training will include review of some Building Analyst topics, but this is not a Building Analyst preparatory course. A heating background is strongly recommended. Following completion of this course, participants will be eligible to take the BPI written / online exam and field exam. The costs of the exams are included in the instruction fee.

Insulation and Air Sealing Training (IAST) & Certification Exam - 4 days:
This 4 day course includes hands on training and will cover approaches of whole house weatherization and installation techniques. The IAST Training will prepare you to implement measures to tighten the building envelope to reduce energy loss from air leakage, as well as the introduction of pollutants and allergens through air migration. This course will also prepare you to improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency through the proper installation of dense-pack insulation materials. This class will conclude with BPI Certification tests.

A/C Heat Pump Professional Program - 3 days:
The BPI A/C Heat Pump Professional designation was developed in collaboration with North American Technician Excellence (NATE). This three-day course is designed for experienced heating contractors. The training, which consists of both classroom and field experience, will help prepare you for the Building Performance Institute’s Cooling Professional on-line and field exams.

Multi-Family Professional Course - 5 days:
This training will cover multifamily building performance analysis including pre-visit procedures, site visit, analysis and reporting to help students prepare for the Building Performance Institute’s Multifamily Building Analyst online written and online practical exams. Multifamily Professional course will prepare you to understand heating system load and sizing, design, duct system diagnostics, and proper maintenance and efficiency analysis.

Participants will be instructed on the evaluation of building performance and improvement opportunities based on a review of energy use and building operating conditions. Training will include review of some Building Analyst topics, but this is not a BA preparatory course.
