- Audio post-production: Many audio engineers are employed in studios and post-production houses working with sound for motion picture and video production.
- Acoustics: Focuses on acoustic principles and studio design.
- Digital audio editing: Introduces the hardware and software used in the virtual studio environment
- Mastering and remixing: This section focuses on the critical link between recording and final CD manufacturing and on the processes that ensure maximum impact on the listener.
Workshop Component
Throughout the program, special workshops are scheduled on various topics including: advanced mixing, music industry seminars, Reason, Live, remixing, full-scale recording sessions with SAE staff, film scoring, DVD production, etc. SAE also maintains relationships with various music and film industry organizations that present their seminars hold networking events at the school that SAE students can attend.
Electronic Music Production Certificate
The Electronic Music Production course provides an opportunity for music enthusiasts to unleash their passion for sound by training with industry professionals at a world-class facility. The program encourages artistic individualism and combines the fundamentals of electronic music production with exploration of more experimental and advanced techniques. Students will graduate from the six-month program with the skills and knowledge to better create the music they love.

Conveniently located at the corner of Market and Powell in downtown San Francisco, The College of Extended Learning at San Francisco State University provides a variety of music business and recording industry classes which are open to everyone. You can select any class that interests you, or follow our Music/Recording Industry academic certificate program. Our downtown campus is directly on the Powell Street BART and Muni lines, and close to affordable parking.Designed for students who want to gain a solid foundation in the music business and/or recording industry, this program offers a comprehensive education in all aspects of the music business. Students choose an emphasis on either the recording arts/technology or the music business, which enables them to acquire real marketable skills to compete successfully in a fiercely intense environment.
All certificate students are required to complete a professional internship as well as a portfolio of projects such as audio engineering demos or music business and marketing plans. In addition, students can select from a number of electives and seminars for the most comprehensive music industry education in the San Francisco Bay Area. Coursework in the program may be applied toward the certificate, or individual classes may be taken to learn or update skills.
The program can be completed in as few as two semesters; however, most students take four semesters, or two years. Evening classes are also available.
The Colburn School is a non-profit independent institution located in downtown Los Angeles, Southern California consisting of two divisions: the Colburn School of Performing Arts (CSPA) and the Conservatory of Music (CCM). The Conservatory of Music is a highly-selective college offering classical instrumental music training at the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels. The Colburn School is a community-based school that provides music, dance and drama training from introductory to advanced levels to students from ages preschool through adult. The Conservatory of Music is predominantly college-age students. As an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, we offer a curriculum that includes a rigorous academic program. The school selects unique and gifted musicians and supplies room and board and tuition. Students must audition for admission. The application process for non-U.S. citizens is the same as that for U.S. citizens.

SAE Los Angeles offers a certifiate course in Electronic Music Production which provides training in Logic, Ableton Live, Reason and Pro Tools within the context of making Electronic Music. We also offer a diploma program in Audio Technology. The diploma program is offered on a full-time or part-time basis and we provide job placement assistance upon graduation.
