Why has the Richard Clarke Academy been set up?

Take one ex-BPP Accountancy International training director, one ex-pharmaceutical trainer and one professional ‘ex-premier league’ footballer and what have you got? Maybe a new super drug for accountants or a new local football team especially for auditors or tax specialists? Well, you couldn’t be further from the truth. If you haven’t already guessed, its the Richard Clarke Academy. The newest addition to the fast growing further education market within Northern Ireland.

I have been teaching ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW and ICAS for the past 10 years. During this time I became very interested in how the brain works, how we study most effectively and applying all this to the world of accountancy tuition. It was striking how stale the market had become. There were no new ideas. No innovation worth speaking of. The big companies had a monopoly and they were complacently enjoying their status. The only people to suffer were the students. As I started applying these scientific principles into my classes the student feedback was phenomenal. Student after student asked me why all the classes weren't delivered in the same way. And so the idea was born. The other factor that excited me was that I could use these very same principles and apply them not only to teaching but to the materials also. Including online - which so far has been very poorly used.

The most influential factor was that the techniques were based on solid scientific research and they were all tried and tested on literally thousands of students. It worked. Now I need to spread the word and let others enjoy the fruits of all this labour too.

Why should I use the Richard Clarke Academy?

Firstly, if you are receiving the very best customer service, materials and the tuition is constantly top quality - you shouldn't! I would never advise anybody to change training providers just to boost our profit. To do so, would only work short term. I intend to build a lasting legacy and the focus is long term.I believe the Academy will grow through word of mouth. Give people quality and honesty and in time they will come. It needs to be a win-win for both sides.

Our defining features are:
1. Our tutors - simply the best in their field. If there is somebody else out there who is better - use them!
2. Our materials - research based and user friendly. The most innovative on the market. Importantly, our materials are consistent. You will see things explained the same way in the written materials, on the powerpoint slides, on podcasts and from your tutor. This is something seriously missing fromthe big companies, where one person writes the book, another writes the notes, another writes the slides and another teaches it, all trained by different people! Then of course they are all updated again by different people. It's a sorry situation which I will never let happen at the Richard ClarkeAcademy. That is a guarantee.

What online support do you get?

At last technology used for a real educational purpose. Currently the odd podcast, the odd cd is all just thrown onto the internet and laughingly called online support! It is not - it is online confusion at best and worse an online insult. The online support is called the parallel - because it runs alongside your course. It understands where you are - what your good at and what your not and then adapts itself to ensure that you are learning appropriately even when not physically with us. If this sounds like hard work - relax, it is not. It has been specifically designed to be quite the opposite. It is ruthlessly efficient. We are not naive enough to think you will sit at a computer for hours on end learning accountancy. Instead the material is bite-sized chunks. Consistent pieces of information - often sent by email so you do not even have to get your books out! Also so short and sweet that you actually enjoy the work. Well, hopefully enjoy!

Woodgrove Tutorials
Courses / Programs
Woodgrove Tutorials are a Gloucester-based, award winning college and online training provider of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) book-keeping and accounts courses through distance learning / home study. The ICB book-keeping qualifications are hugely beneficial in acquiring employment as a bookkeeper. ICB's aims are to promote bookkeepers to allow them to gain recognition as an integral part of the financial system. The ICB controls this through qualifications and grades of membership which recognise the accomplishments of its members in academia, experience and individual competence.

Although the ICB provide the examination body, they don’t teach the courses themselves. On enrolment, students receive a ‘hard copy’ of course modules from Woodgrove Tutorials (by email and/or post by air mail) and submit assignments online.

Bookkeeping training is vital to any business, whether it be for an employee of a large national company or a self employed businessman, as it monitors the financial transactions of a business daily. It is essential that every business has at least one employee who is trained and qualified in bookkeeping to ensure that the business is run efficiently.
ICB Bookkeeping courses: From beginners through to expert levels:

- ICB Level I Certificate in Basic Bookkeeping

- ICB Level II Certificate in Manual Bookkeeping

- ICB Level III Diploma in Manual Bookkeeping

* Students are sent a ‘hard copy’ of the course modules and are required to submit assignments online.

* The last exam for the ICB Level 1 is taken online.

* External exams for levels II and III can be taken in most countries around the world.
