Pathways Academy:
Pathways Academy is a state-wide homeschooling service covering families living in Alabama. We offer 3 high school diploma options - Standard, Academic, & Advanced, and a comprehensive list of courses for students in Grades K-12. At Pathways, we believe the paths to education begin at home and that parents should have a choice in educating their children. We welcome and accept students from all over the state of Alabama regardless of religion, culture, or race.
Comprehensive Homeschooling Programs for Students in Grades K-12:
Required Homeschool Subjects:
Kindergarten - Grade 2:
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 must be must receive purposeful instruction and intentionally provided opportunities to learn skills in the areas of Language Arts and Math. Social interaction opportunities within the homeschooling community are also considered essential to family success. Additional studies may be offered at the parent-educator's discretion.
Grade 3 - Grade 8:
Students in Grade 3 through Grade 8 must receive purposeful instruction and intentionally provided opportunities to learn skills in the areas of English (reading, grammar, and writing), Math, Science and History / Social Studies. Social interaction opportunities within the homeschooling community are also considered essential to family success. Additional studies may be offered at the parenteducator's discretion.
High School, Grades 9-12:
High school students must either be covering the core subjects of English, Math, Science and History or working towards a diploma. We offer 3 high school diploma options - Standard, Academic, & Advanced, The following should be considered in planning the high school course of study:
- English: English studies should include more than just Grammar and basic composition. College bound students need Literature and writing courses.
- Math: Computer literacy and consumer math are recommended for all students. College bound students should have at LEAST Algebra I, but preferably Geometry
and Algebra II.
- Science: College bound students need Biology, and preferably Chemistry, as well.
- History: Typical history studies include World history, American history,
- Government and Economics.
- Religion: All students must have two semesters of Christian religious studies.
- Electives: Electives should include at least two semesters of physical education and one semester of health. At least one semester of Life Skills (Home Ec), public speaking course, and career exploration are strongly recommended. College bound students should have at least two semesters of Fine Arts, and an ACT or SAT preparation course.
