Our Philosophy:

Photo of Visual and Performing Arts High School in South FloridaConservatory Prep Schools  has been a culmination of the combined visions of concerned members of the community, educators, artists and that of its founder, Dr. Wendy Hirsch Weiner. The school's educational philosophy, name Add Mediad Edluministic Learning combines the inspiration of Waldorf, Montessori and John Dewey.

The vision of a school where students' individual needs are met, subjects are studied in depth for understanding, and a community of learners is developed through the arts and experiential learning, has become a reality.

Conservatory Prep realizes that every student has a gift and that all students with desire can achieve. It is our conviction that neither rote memorization nor teaching to the test prepare individuals for higher education, or life.

All of our core classes are inter-disciplinary with enrichment designed to provide our students with a well-rounded meaningful educational experience. Instead of rote memorization, students will be exposed to problem-based experiential learning through the arts. English may be taught on the stage and through film, history through art and culinary, and Latin integrates music and art.. We view the arts as an important component to one’s education and well-being complimenting any discipline our students choose to pursue. Writing skills are honed, research techniques are cultivated, and expression of thought is enhanced through our unique curriculum. We view internships and volunteering in the community as a vital part of one's education.

Students have pursued their passion for music by working in a music recording studio; learned to edit film at a local TV station and experienced the realities of being an architect by working for a local firm. In order to make sure that our students have sufficient time to pursue their passions, students are expected to work hard at school during the day through active participation and then homework is minimal.

Through our experience, students are much more productive during the school day when they know that they will not be going home to hours of homework in the evening. Our students come to school refreshed and eager to learn each day.

Admission Criteria:

Image of Visual and Performing Arts High School in South FloridaConservatory Prep Schools - seeks to attract applicants who desire a college preparatory program with an integration of the arts and hands-on, experiential learning, in a small intimate environment. Our students tend to be independent, creative thinkers who are in need of an outlet to expand their talents and express themselves. Based upon the importance of a student’s desire to become part of our learning community, admission is limited to those students who will contribute to the school’s educational and artistic diversity.

Admissions Process- Conservatory Prep interviews both the parents and the student, requires two personal recommendations and individualized testing by a certified psychologist. Students need to demonstrate the ability and desire to achieve in a small, highly academic environment on an advanced level.

Open Admissions Policy - Discrimination on the basis of race, creed, ethnic origin, gender, physical and/or learning disabilities, and other impermissible factors is not tolerated. We are committed to the development of cultural, racial, religious, economic and geographic diversity within our school community. Conservatory Prep will accommodate differences in learning styles within the curriculum.

Zero Tolerance Policy- Conservatory Prep does not tolerate nor accept students with a past history of aggression, drugs or alcohol, or possession of weapons.

Just Another Day at Conservatory Prep Schools:

Another great day at Conservatory Prep. The students learned about Rorschach in psychology class and then attempted to design and interpret their own ink blott paintings.

Conservatory Prep started a new club this week called Student Projects. Each week a different student leads the club in an area of interest. This week Ashley led us in bead design and the students made very elaborate necklaces.

During African Studies class students were learning the different beats of drumming used in traditional rituals.

Our Chemistry class tackled art restoration and were fortunate to have been trusted with oil and acrylic paintings to clean and restore.
