American Language Center:
At American Language Center (ALC) in Bloomfield, New Jersey we are excited to offer international students the best of both worlds: small town warmth and big city adventure; personalized attention and the opportunity to meet many types of people; hard work and time to laugh and relax. ALC students have easy access to free, unlimited tutoring sessions and can take part in a free conversation partner program with American students. In our activities program, we attend local and regional events, on and off campus, and engage in volunteer work and community service. All of our activities involve American students from Bloomfield College! The college is just the right size (2,100 students), so it's easy and fun to participate.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Six levels of ESL instruction, focusing on speaking, listening, grammar, reading and writing. Classroom learning is supplemented with free one-on-one tutoring, a state-of-the-art language lab, activity programs, and a conversation partner program. Our goal is to facilitate students' ability to communicate in English as well as prepare them for success at an English speaking university. With six levels of instruction, The American Language Program is able to meet the needs of students at every level. The small class size ensures individual attention and abundant opportunity to speak and practice learned material. The faculty members of the American Language Program are highly qualified, experienced teachers with advanced degrees. They are language experts who help students adjust to U.S. higher education and American culture.

TOEFL preparation courses
ALC's TOEFL Prep Program is designed to improve test performance on the new iBT TOEFL test for intermediate- to high-level ESL students. If you are intent on improving your TOEFL score, or have yet to take it but want to prepare for it, ALC's small TOEFL Prep classes will ensure that you get the necessary practice in speaking, listening comprehension, writing, reading, and grammar skills to score well on the test. Practice tests are taken each week and reviewed extensively with the instructor.

Other Courses
Business English for Professionals, the American Language Program, the Arts (English and Dance, English and Music, English and Fine Arts, English and Acting), and Technology (Students enroll in the American Language Program and take classes at the Institute for Technology and Professional Studies. The English and Technology program is limited to ALC students in the Intermediate level 2 and above).

Our students feel comfortable and challenged in our programs and improve their English proficiency quickly. The twenty hour intensive English program at ALC is known for its experienced and attentive faculty and commitment to the communicative method. Our instructors, all of whom hold advanced degrees, are dedicated to helping students meet their needs and goals. We specialize in small classes and individual attention. Our average class size is eight students.
