MIP Politecnico di Milano:
In 1979, the business school MIP was created out of a co-operation between key Italian CEOs and Politecnico di Milano, when a group of leading Italian CEOs identified the need for a school where business executives could further develop their management skills. MIP has continued to enjoy a privileged relationship with its shareholder companies, which over the years has been extended to include foreign multinationals. In fact, MIP has been ranked number one by Espansione for its expansive company network and students are given the unique opportunity to work alongside key stakeholders within important organizations, challenging themselves in real-life business situations.

Living and studying in Milan offers broad exposure to an international business community and opens up an array of opportunities thanks to its rich entrepreneurial network and the wide variety of sectors present in the territory. Home to 400 banks and major industrial companies, Milan is often described as the “locomotive of Italy”; it is at the heart of a manufacturing system that generates 21% of Italy’s GDP and its strong economic base has made it one of Italy’s most influential cities.

Milan is also an international centre for the fashion industry and a world leader in design. Here the ingrained manufacturing tradition is flanked by a culture of progress and experimentation, enterprise and production. It is a dynamic, cultural city at the forefront of modern Italy where the most important events, shows and exhibitions take place. Trade fairs are an important resource of the city which allow enterprises, particularly small and medium ones, to connect with international markets.

Milan possesses an efficient infrastructure system and its well-developed road, rail and airport connections make it a hub of transport for much of Europe.

The Politecnico di Milano is one of the most outstanding universities in Europe. Founded in 1863, it is the largest school of architecture, design and engineering in Italy, with three main campuses located in Milan, the heart of fashion and design industries and the future venue of Expo 2015, and five more premises around the Lombardy region.

Many important scientists and architects studied and taught here, among them Achille Castiglioni, Gio Ponti, Renzo Piano and Aldo Rossi, both Pritzker Prize in 1990 and 1998 respectively, and Giulio Natta, Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1963. Some of the most recent honorary degrees were awarded to Giorgio Armani and Italo Lupi, also in the field of Design; to Kengo Kuma in Building Engineering / Architecture; to Steven Holl in Architecture and to Dan M. Frangopol in Civil Engineering.

The Politecnico di Milano is organized into 12 departments, responsible for planning of the research strategies, and 6 schools, responsible for the organization of education. Among these, 3 schools cater for the different fields of engineering and 3 schools the fields of architecture and industrial design.

Thanks to a strong internationalization policy, many programmes are taught entirely in English, attracting an ever-increasing number of talented foreign students, which now form a diverse community from more than 100 different countries. In the academic year 2010/2011, 22% of the total students enrolled on Master of Science programmes were foreign.

Inter and multidisciplinarity is fostered throughout the academic path, and it is the methodological approach of the Phd School and the ASP (Alta Scuola Politecnica), a school for young talents from all over the world, who develop their skills in a team work context to pursue complex innovation projects.

Students are offered also focused and personalized career services, from in-class and online meetings with companies, to workshops on soft skills and the job market, along with announcements and guidance for international careers.

Teaching is increasingly related to research, a key commitment that enables to achieve results of high international standards, while creating connections with the business world.
Strategic research is carried out mainly in the fields of energy, transport, planning, management, design, mathematics and natural and applied sciences, ICT, built environment, cultural heritage, with more than 130 laboratories, among these also a Wind Tunnel and a Crash Test centre.

MIP’s current campus opened in 2009. The new structure houses 25 new study rooms and 11 lecture halls to accommodate an additional 670 students. All of MIP’s academic, cultural, and research activities are located within these 3,800 square meters.

MIP Politecnico di Milano has always been recognised for the quality and excellence of its programs; over the years it has established lasting contacts with leading national and international institutions for management training accreditation.

MIP is an institutional member of EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) as well as a member of ASFOR (the Italian Corporate Management Training Association). MIP’s MBA and Executive MBA programs are accredited by ASFOR. Our Executive MBA, in particular, was the first Italian EMBA to have been awarded this prestigious recognition in 2004 and, in 2008, became the only program in Italy to have gained a second certificate of quality, following the accreditation of its e-learning platform.

Through its Executive MBA, MIP is a member of the EMBA Council, an association of the world’s most important business schools whose work and international network promote excellence and innovation in executive training programs.

In 2007, the entire School of Management, including DIG and MIP, first achieved the prestigious EQUIS accreditations (European Quality Improvement System) and joined the circle of around 140 leading business schools accredited by EFMD.

In 2009, the School of Management was included for the first time in the rankings of the Financial Times' top European Business Schools. In the newly released Financial Times rankings 2016, for the 7th consecutive year, the Financial Times has endorsed the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano, listed among the best schools in Europe.

In March 2013, Politecnico di Milano School of Management has received accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) for achieving what AMBA describes as the highest standard in Postgraduate Business Education for EMBA and MBA programmes. This accreditation establishes the School MBA programmes firmly amongst the best in the world and informs employers of the high standards of its graduates. AMBA’s accreditation is internationally recognised as the global standard for all MBA and EMBA programmes.

In April 2014, the School was included in Unicon, the global consortium of business-school-based executive education organizations. Its community of member organizations is engaged in accelerating the development of leaders and managers, thereby enhancing performance in public and private organizations globally, through executive development initiatives. The School is also member of PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) and Cladea (Latin American Council of Management Schools).

MIP's faculty is made up of professors with extremely diverse professional and educational backgrounds who are complemented by an international teaching staff. As a general rule, faculty members, many of whom are successful professionals in their own right, draw on their own consulting work and the immense research facilities of Politecnico di Milano to provide up-to-date, diverse and relevant material for lectures and business cases.
