Language Institute, Dublin:
The Kenilworth Language Institute is an ideal place to study in Dublin. It combines ease of access to the city centre with a calm and quiet environment that is perfect for learning. Our students are typically adults who are looking for something extra from their English language course. We have eight classrooms and can cater for about ninety students when full. We offer small classes and the school has a real English-speaking environment. This leads to a rapid development in language skills, particularly in the areas of Oral Fluency and Listening Comprehension.
- General English Programme
The General English Programme covers all areas of language development. Classes begin at 9.30 and finish at 13.30. There is a mid-morning coffee break. The communicative Method of teaching is practised, with students encouraged to actively use their English in class and to participate to the fullness of their ability. Grammar and the four main skills - Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing - are taught on an integrated basis. The General English Programme gives students the opportunity to improve their English in an interesting and progressive environment.
- English Plus
Students with special needs can choose English Plus, which combines the General English Programme with our One-to-one or Small Group Programmes, thus gaining the benefits of both: General English in the morning and specific English in the afternoon.
English Plus combinations include General English and:
• Business English
• Medical English
• Technical English
- Exam preparation
Students who wish to can prepare for an international exam, such as the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), CAE, IELTS, TOEFL.
- Business English
Business English Programmes are driven by the needs of the participants, and programmes are tailor-made to best suit these needs - for example, making presentations, participating in meetings or socialising in a business environment.
Many companies will be familiar with the challenges - and synergies - of operating in a global market. We've specialised in providing companies with courses in cross-cultural communication. Participants on our programmes will look at the nature and practical implications of different cultural modes of behaviour and communication, and at developing better intercultural communication skills.
- Summer School
During July and August we run a school for young learners. It is open to students between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. There are classes between 9.30 and 13.30, with sports activities and excursions in the afternoons.
The summer school aims to provide tuition in a happy, fun and stimulating environment. The emphasis is on improving the student's skills work, particularly their oral ability. Students get the chance to explore topics through English, and to improve their confidence in using English.
- Homestay accommodation programme
Students often benefit hugely from staying with an Irish family, which affords an opportunity to converse, and encounter new cultural experiences, in a natural and warm environment.
- English Teacher Development Programme
The Kenilworth Language Institute is very active in the area of teacher development. Our courses are two weeks in duration, and include sessions on:
• Material Development
• Phonology
• Teaching Methodologies
• Language Development
• Irish Literature, History and Culture
• Contemporary Ireland
• Afternoon visits to places of interest in and around Dublin
The course content is flexible, and can include sessions on different topics according to the participants' wishes. It is important to stress that this is a Teacher Development course, not a Teacher Training course. There is a strong emphasis on sharing the experience and knowledge of the participants, and most sessions are workshops in nature rather than lectures. The aim is to provide a course that is practical and useful to the teachers, and provides a good insight into the literary, historical and cultural affairs of Ireland.
