Students who take our Accounting Major focus on management and financial accounting, along with taxation, auditing and accounting information systems. This major offers flexibility and generous transfer arrangements to meet professional accounting association requirements. On completion of this program, students should be able to demonstrate a grasp of theory, technically-based skills and ethical perspectives relevant to core business areas, including finance, economics, statistics, marketing, financial accounting, management accounting, strategic management, information systems, commercial law and organizational behaviour.
Years 1 & 2 Subjects:
- Required Courses: Introductory Financial Accounting; Cost Analysis; Introduction to Management; Writing in Organizations; Microcomputer Applications in Business (Windows); Microeconomics; Macroeconomics; A junior or senior level English course; Commercial Law; Business Mathematics or Calculus for Social Sciences and Economics or Introduction to Calculus I or Linear Algebra I; Statistics for Business and Economics I or Introduction to Statistics or Computer-oriented Approach to Statistics; Statistics for Business and Economics II.
- Optional Courses: Business and Administrative Studies credits at the junior (200) or senior (300 or 400) level; Humanities, Science, or Social Science credits at the junior (200) level; Humanities, Science, or Social Science credits at the senior (300 or 400) level).
Years 3 & 4 Subjects:
- Required Courses: Strategic and Competitive Analysis; Management Information Systems; Overview of Corporate Finance; Introduction to Production and Operations Management or Service Operations Management; Introduction to Marketing; Organizational Behaviour; A senior (300 or 400) level Organizational Behaviour course other than ORGB 364; Strategic Management.
- Accounting Major Core Courses: Intermediate Financial Accounting I; Intermediate Financial Accounting II; Principles of Auditing; Taxation I and one of the following courses Investments or Risk Management.
- Accounting Major Electives: Any other senior (300 or 400) level Accounting (ACCT), Taxation (TAXX), Finance (FNCE) course, or CMIS 455.
- Other Options: Business and Administrative Studies credits at the senior (300/400) level: Any non-Business and Administrative Studies (Humanities, Science, Social Science, or Applied Studies courses) credits at the senior (300/400) level (PHIL 333 Professional Ethics is strongly recommended).
