Chinco Design Studio is a jewellery making and design school located in the heart of Brighton and Hove in East Sussex on the coast of South-East England. We offer a range of jewellery making and jewellery design courses and workshops for beginners to advanced students. Courses are taught by Sheila Way who is a jeweller / designer and a member of the British Jewellery Association.
Courses / Workshops include:
- 1-year jewellery making & design career change course:
Learn basic to more advanced jewellery making techniques. Study and work in my studio one day a week which would involve learning how to design and make jewellery in silver / gold. Build a porfolio of your designs including photographic imag
es. All tools are provided while you are on a course but materials are extra ie silver / gold / books. A list of materials will be handed out on the first day. Beginners welcome on this course.
- 2-year jewellery making & design career change course:
The 2-year course covers the same content as the 1-year course. Students would have a chance of further developments in more advanced techniques as well as having the chance of producing their work to a high standard. This could include entry to the British Jewellery Association competitons / membership or to studio outlets to display your jewellery to the public. All this depends on your standard of work.
- Jewellery making holiday courses:
Stay in a B&B and enjoy a course for 5 or 10 days make great jewellery, all tools provided.
- Silver jewellery making holiday course:
Starting at 10am we design our jewellery to scale. All tools are provided to make in silver, we learn how to build a portfolio including photos, drawings, designs. Jewellery making techniques are learnt throughout the 5 / 10 days. These will include sawing, filing, roll mill textures, rivits, forging, polishing etc. You will then finish with your own design made in silver at 5pm on the 5th / 10th day.
You will be provided with a portfolio, pen, A4 pad , please bring a digital camera if you have one. A small charge for materials silver / stones will be applied. Please note that this is a very intensive course designed for the student to set up a studio at home. Details of tools needed for this will be given out during the course. Books available for students to read in the studio.
- Stone setting course:
Design your own jewellery and learn to set a stone. Make your jewellery in silver or gold, learn silversmith techniques, cabochon stone setting, claw, tube, bezel settings. Max two students at a time .
- Wax carving course:
Beginner or more advanced students are welcome. Only three students at a time!
Learn how to make rings. This course will introduce you to this fantastic subject of wax carving. You will learn basic skills in how to design your rings, carve in wax, use up to date tools, understand what wax is used, how to finish, ready fo
r sending to a casting company. The second two day course will show you how to finish your ring to a high standard and you may wish to set a stone depending on your design. Please book your four dates first , when your ring returns you can complete the second two days. All details will be explained when booking this course. You will need 14 days in between the four dates for your jewellery to return .Please note that the casting company will charge you for silver in grams. The course can be booked as an evening course or during the day Monday - Friday. Please book early.
- Chain making course:
One / two / or three day courses available. Beginners course only. Make bracelets, neck chains, learn silversmith skills, sawing, filing, sanding, polishing, what tools are used and why! All tools provided during sessions.
