Associate Degree, Diploma & Certificate Healthcare Programs

Nursing A.S.
Go after the unparalleled opportunities available in health care by becoming a registered nurse (RN). Earning the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree awarded by MCTC’s Professional Nursing Program (NPRO) prepares you with the knowledge, skills, and experience you need to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

Our NPRO faculty are experienced nurses who use state-of-the-art technology and evidence-based teaching styles to give you the tools you need to begin or to advance your nursing career. NPRO learners are dually admitted to Augsburg College and are provisionally admitted to Augsburg’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. If you are a successful NPRO graduate and you complete your licensure as an RN you can complete a BSN in as little as one additional year at Augsburg.

Addiction Counseling (Associate Degree & Diploma options available)
Through MCTC’s Addiction Counseling Program, the oldest in the state of Minnesota, you will receive hands-on training and excellent training from experienced faculty that will ground you in the fundamentals of counseling.

This program, which emphasizes the importance of interpersonal and cross-cultural communications, prepares you for Minnesota Alcohol and Drug Counselor licensure.

Polysomnographic Technology (sleep study) (Associate Degree & Diploma options available)
Polysomnographic technologists play a key role in the rapidly growing field of sleep disorder research and treatment. They prepare, observe and record patients’ behavior and provide data and recommendations to physicians so patients can receive appropriate therapies.

The Polysomnographic Technology program teaches the core skills needed to perform sleep disorder research and patient interventions.

Dental Assistant (Diploma & Certificate options available)
Become a valuable part of a dental office with MCTC’s accredited Dental Assistant Program. Whether you are new to the field, currently work in a dental office and want to become a Dental Assistant or you are a Dental Assistant seeking an expanded functions certificate, MCTC provides the training you need.

Nursing Assistant / Home Health Aide (Certificate Program)
Nursing assistants and home health aides are essential members of today’s healthcare teams, performing hands-on resident/client care and routine tasks for individuals of various ages and health conditions.

MCTC’s program provides basic skills training, including the fundamentals of how to check and monitor vital signs and deal with a wide range of resident/client needs.

Community Health Worker (Certificate Program)
Community health workers teach the basics of good health and link people to health care and social service systems. Upon completion of MCTC’s 17-credit Community Health Worker (CMHW) certificate, you’ll be able to help improve health care access for underrepresented groups, the elderly and the chronically ill.

Central Services Technician (Certificate Program)
This certificate program trains you to become a Central Services Technician, where you will play an important role in patient care by preventing infections. In this program, you will learn how to sterilize medical instruments, learn basic surgical instrumentation and medical terminology as well as decontamination and sterilization processes.

Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) is a public two-year college located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis.

Created in 1996, under the umbrella of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system, MCTC is the result of the merger of two institutions: a technical college with a long history of vocational education dating back to 1914 and an open-enrollment community college established in 1965.

Currently, the spacious campus covers 21.6 acres of land and recent expansions include a new state-of-the-art Science Center, culinary kitchen and dining hall and outdoor plaza.
