Hampshire College, Amherst:
Hampshire College in Amherst, Western Massachusetts, is a private liberal arts college offering Bachelor of Arts degree & Certificate programs in a variety of career fields, from microbiology to filmmaking, social entrepreneurship to quantum physics. Hampshire College draws on the resources of four other nearby institutions —Amherst, Mount Holyoke, Smith, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst—which together form the Five College consortium, one of the oldest and largest in the country.
Undergraduate Degree Programs:
Instead of freshman year, sophomore year, and so on, Hampshire students qualify for a Bachelor of Arts degree by completing a full-time program composed of three levels, or divisions, of study. The underlying philosophy: after exploring widely and deeply, students become the architects and builders of their own academic programs.
