Located in Freiburg, in south-west Germany, Hochschule für Kunst, Design und Populäre Musik (hKDM) is a career training institution that provides Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree programs in music, design, art, and computer science. With the exception of the Popular Music course, which is also available in English, all Degrees are taught in German. Each semester, hKDM welcomes students from all over the world. Furthermore the school engages frequently in international projects. In addition to the three bachelor degree programmes, hKDM also offers distance learning programmes in the areas of game design, editorial design, motion design, video design and screen and web design.

BA in Fine Arts:
Duration: 4 Years - Language of instruction: German
Photo of Bachelor Degree Courses in GermanyOur Fine Arts course consists of eight semesters. During early semesters, students get acquainted with various drawing, painting and printing techniques.

Later, students are encouraged to experiment with various techniques in order to develop their own individual artistic handwriting.

BA in Integrated Design:
Duration: 4 Years - Language of instruction: German
Integrated Design combines elements of the traditional graphic design with new technology. The first three semesters are dedicated to the acquisition of basic techniques. Later, students specialize in their field of interest and choose between four specializations:

- Photography & Film
- Illustration
- New Media Design 
- Communication Design 

BA in Popular Music/International Program in Music:
Duration: 4 Years - Language of instruction: English or German
This program starts off with a basic study period, during which the students concentrate on their main instrument both in one-to-one and in group lessons. As they advance in their studies, students can specialize in:

- Performance
- Songwriting & Producing

BA in Computer Science for Audiovisual Media 
Duration: 4 Years - Language of instruction: German
This study program is aimed at training professionals, who combine creative talent with technical knowledge and who can use their skills in complex media projects.

The areas of application include websites, games, e-learning applications, information technology etc. The study program consists of 7 semesters and includes an internship in the 4th semester.

Berlin Art Class
Courses / Programs
Berlin Art Class provides painting and drawing courses, taught in English by a professional artist. You will enjoy learning both academic and contemporary techniques in art in the relaxed environment of a private studio in central Berlin.

Our classes are suitable for beginner to intermediate level with advanced art classes available on request. You will also learn a lot about art history and the different techniques of different artists.

The classes are designed to gradually increase your skills as you develop. The intermediate student will develop their palette skills with mixing and applying color and also learn to develop their hand/eye coordination in drawing. As you progress, you will understand the basics of drawing/painting still lifes, landscapes and portraits.

You can study for only short periods, or join us for ongoing study. You will also be able to explore you own style and gain advice on how to develop your ideas and techniques. All materials area provided.

Please note that this is not a degree conferring institution.

The Master of Design / Media Spaces is a project-based program designed for applicants who have already completed a higher education degree in a design or media related field. This master’s program ‘Media Spaces’ finds its home somewhere between the expansion of existing physical spaces and the new concept of abstract spatial experiences. - Master of Design / Media Spaces Degree Program (18 months)

The three-semester master’s program ‘Media Spaces’ consists of two intensive projects that take place during the first and second semesters, as well as courses chosen from a catalog of mandatory electives. The thesis project in the third semester includes an individual creative project and an academic dissertation.
