Metropolitan State College of Denver:
The Metropolitan State College of Denver (also known as Metro State, or informally as Metro or MSCD) is a four-year college located in Denver, Colorado. Metro State has the second largest enrollment of undergraduates in Colorado. The Art Department at MSCD provides a range of Bachelor Degree programs with concentrations in art & design fields that include Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Spatial Media, Art Education, and other fields of study.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art
Concentrations include:

The Bachelor of Fine Arts major prepares students to:
- Analyze the nonverbal language of art and design.
- Construct responses to visual phenomena and organize perceptions and conceptualizations both rationally and intuitively.
- Analyze and solve visual problems competently using a number of art and design techniques.
- Classify major achievements and developments in the history of art
- Examine and evaluate contemporary thinking about art and design.
- Assess quality in design projects and works of art.
BA in Art with a Concentration in Art History, Theory and Criticism
The Art History, Theory and Criticism Concentration prepares students to:
- Evaluate developments in the history of art.
- Assess critically the scholarship applied to specific art historical problems of style, meaning, interpretation, theory, or the exhibition of objects.
- Construct an analytical response to the nonverbal language of art and design based on visual perception, historical evidence and interpretive strategies.
Art Education and Art Licensure: K-12
The Department of Art offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with an Art Education Concentration combined with an emphasis in one of eight studio areas. Students will be eligible for K-12 Art Licensure upon successful completion of the degree. The program may be completed, including student teaching, in eight full-time semesters (four years) in any emphasis area except Printmaking, which requires nine semesters. Art Education students must be advised in both the Art and Education Departments.
Art Minors
Any Minor in Art can be advised by any of the faculty coordinators in the Department of Art. The Digital Media Minor can be advised by the Photography Coordinator or Digital Art Coordinator in the Department of Art, or by faculty in the Technical Communications and Media Production or Communication Arts and Sciences Departments.
