French Academy DC, MD, VA:
The French Academy is a new French language school in the DC metro area founded by two passionate and experienced native French teachers who wanted to provide the highest standards of learning French. We offer a wide range of classes for adults and children with excellent teachers! Our office in Alexandria is located on Franconia road, very close to Telegraph road. We are currently developing into the DC Metro area, with group classes for adults and children at convenient locations (K street, Chevy Chase and Alexandria) and flexible one-on-one lessons.
Language Programs:
You can find all levels of general French, but also specialized French for business, project management, finance, literature and art at convenient locations. Our youth program is for children ages 1 to 16.
The "Tricolour" and more...Our concept is very simple, you have 3 main steps, Blue - White - Red, to become an "Independent User", meaning you can manage most language situations. For each of these steps there are certain skills you need to master, in terms of your oral and written abilities (expression and comprehension).
Once you pass the red level, you are an advanced user. At that level, what we call the “gold” classes, the learning is a bit different; you are ready to discover the subtleties of the language and get trained to talk and write with fewer mistakes. For that purpose it’s essential to talk a lot but also go more in depth into the rules of grammar. That’s why we offer you “Conversation and Grammar” classes.
Along your French journey, you may want to reinforce your skills or do specialized classes or workshops. Check below to see what we have planned!
Clear proficiency levels
Our classes match the proficiency level of the CEFR:
Blue for A1, beginners
White for A2, elementary
Red for B1, intermediate
Gold for B2, C1, C2: operational and advanced
For kids and teens
Our youth program is for children aged 1 to 16:
Les moineaux (12-36 monts)
Les poussins (3-5 years)
Les Momes (6-8 years)
Les grands (9-12 years)
Les ados (13 and more)The course curriculum focuses first on oral communication, but reading and writing will be adequately introduced according to the children’s' age and abilities. In our French world your children will meet new friends (hand puppets…not for the teens, don’t worry) and will have a lot of fun. We use authentic materials: children books, songs, TV programs, movies and magazines for teens, plus a lot of interactive games and activities that make learning grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation very fun!
One-on-one lessons
If you think you will benefit more from learning at your own pace, or if you feel like you need more focused interaction than what is possible in a big group, private lessons are probably the best solution for you.
We can prepare yourself for:
- A test: FSI, DELF, TEF, TCF, ACTFL exam
- A new job or
- A move abroad.
We will to our best to match your needs and meet your at flexible times and locations.
