MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) are short courses that are delivered online for free, most often by MOOC providers such as Coursera or FutureLearn who work in partnership with top universities and colleges. Available to students in the UK and around the world, MOOCs are offered in a wide range of disciplines.
Why Take a MOOC?
MOOCs are designed to give students a taste of higher education. Usually run two or three times each year, they do not normally have any entry requirements. Often led by world-class academics supported by teaching assistants, they are self-paced which allows you to schedule your study around your work and family commitments.
You will have access to tutorials, video lectures, and other study materials, complete the assigned readings and assessments. You can interact with a large community of fellow learners, instructors, and subject experts through online forums. When you have completed your course, you will receive a certificate. On completion of some courses, you may be eligible to apply for college credit.
