The Role
** Reporting directly to the Head of Specialty Property, working as part of the team, you will be responsible for building a profitable and diversified portfolio including all underwriting-related functions associated with the administration of a worldwide book of Marine & Energy reinsurance business.#
** Your Responsibilities
*** Underwrite Marine & Energy treaty business in accordance with underwriting and pricing guidelines
* Collaborate with Head of Specialty Property to design a strategy that addresses both the broader marketplace as well as client-specific plans.
* Maintain close working relationship with regional office to ensure the effective execution of strategy
* Visit various clients and brokers globally to identify, develop and maintain relationships
* Maintain regular communication with the claims team to help deliver a high standard of claims service. Additionally, participate in quarterly meetings to assess and ensure the adequacy of reserves
* Monitor exposures on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance with tolerance guidelines
* Stay informed on industry developments, emerging risks (e.g., climate change, geopolitical shifts), and competitor activity to inform underwriting strategy.
* Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and panels to enhance visibility and thought leadership.
* Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes, tools, and workflows, including the use of data analytics and automation.
* Collaborate with technology and operations teams to implement enhancements that support underwriting efficiency and accuracy.
* Work closely with other specialty lines (e.g., property, casualty, renewables) to identify cross-selling opportunities and ensure cohesive client solutions.
* Mentor assistants on their journey to becoming underwriters by sharing experience and helping them develop their skills#
** Your Profile
*** University degree with progress towards a recognized insurance qualification
* 7 – 10 years of reinsurance underwriting in Marine/Energy related lines, with a strong underwriting of global market and risk dynamics.
* Proven track record of assessing and pricing complex risks in a similar environment
* Proficient in risk assessment methodologies, loss modeling, and exposure analysis.
* Ability to interpret engineering reports, technical specifications, and environmental impact assessments.
* Demonstrated ability in making underwriting decisions while balancing risk appetite and profitability.
* Experience applying underwriting guidelines and negotiation terms.
* Familiarity with global marine energy insurance markets, regulatory frameworks, and emerging trends.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts across a global matrix structure.
* Strong interpersonal skills and experience working cross-functionally with claims, actuarial, legal.
* Proficiency in MS-office products and other relevant tools for data analysis and reporting (ie. Power BI)
* Proficient in English. Additional languages are an advantage.
