Pricing Actuary – Reinsurance (80‑100%) – Zurich, Switzerland
We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to join the International Reinsurance Pricing and Analytics team at AXA XL. The role of the Pricing Actuary is to provide pricing and analytical support to the worldwide Credit and Surety business, with exposure to other products and regions. You will develop pricing methodologies and tools, support underwriting teams with individual deal pricing and portfolio analytics, and provide management with a reliable and consistent view of underwriting profitability.
There are also opportunities to participate in cross‑region and/or cross‑product projects at a Reinsurance segment level.
Reporting to the Head of Global Lines (International Re), the role will make an important contribution to AXA XL’s treaty pricing capabilities. You will be a proactive team player, eager to develop your skills, and possess compelling communication and technical skills.
What You’ll Be Doing- Integral part of the International Reinsurance Pricing and Analytics team, working actively with the Credit and Surety underwriters in Zurich and with other pricing team members worldwide.
- Partner closely with Credit & Surety underwriters and lead the development of the pricing and analytics tools required to support AXA XL Re’s Credit & Surety portfolio.
- Advise underwriters with treaty review/analysis during renewals, either by carrying out the pricing directly or ensuring it is carried out using approved pricing models appropriately, depending on the complexity of the business.
- Produce monthly and quarterly exposure aggregate management reports for Credit reinsurance, including analysis of exposure movements; also responsible for the annual parameterisation of relevant underwriting risk for capital management.
- Maintain excellent communication with all members of the Credit & Surety underwriting team, liaise with AXA XL’s risk management functions and capital management team.
- Develop consistency of approach and lead pricing improvements; conduct ad hoc research and project work to furnish underwriting teams with analytical insight and help informed decisions.
- Design, produce and continually improve management information to assist underwriters and the management team.
- Responsible for actuarial elements of the business/strategic planning process relating to Credit & Surety.
- Coordinate with other actuaries in the International region to provide actuarial support across regional offices; work with actuaries in other regions on Reinsurance Segment projects where relevant.
- Liaise with the actuarial reserving team to ensure a seamless flow of information and understand the actuarial control cycle.
- Qualified actuary – FIA, FCAS or equivalent qualification from a recognised actuarial association, with some years’ post‑qualified actuarial experience.
- Prior experience in actuarial pricing, preferably including reinsurance treaty pricing; familiarity with credit pricing, capital allocation and willingness to develop technical knowledge.
- Effective communicator, able to present ideas and complex topics to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders.
- Team‑oriented, quick learner, highly motivated, adaptable, capable of building effective relationships across cultures.
- Excellent spoken and written English. Additional European languages a plus.
- Proficient in coding languages such as VBA, R, Python or SQL, with effective Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Interest in financial markets, economics, and current affairs; basic knowledge of corporate bond pricing, “first‑to‑default” concepts and credit correlation is advantageous.
- Meticulous attention to detail, able to manipulate & validate data accurately and identify inconsistencies.
- Creative problem‑solver, able to identify business needs and design appropriate solutions with a proactive “can‑do” attitude.
- Outstanding organisational skills, able to take ownership, prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
- Able to travel from time to time.
