inspire AG is the leading Swiss competence centre for product innovation and advanced manufacturing. As a strategic partner of ETH Zurich, our mission is to transfer knowledge and technology from research to Swiss machine, electrical and metal industries.

Project background

Our research focuses on advancing intelligent monitoring and quality assurance in industrial manufacturing processes. In this internship, you will work on state‑of‑the‑art anomaly detection methods using computer vision and time‑series data, with a particular focus on multimodal data fusion for powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing of 3D parts. The project combines theoretical research with hands‑on implementation on real industrial datasets and systems.

This position is ideal for candidates interested in applied machine learning and computer vision at the intersection of research and industrial deployment.

Job description
  • Develop and implement state‑of‑the‑art computer vision algorithms for anomaly detection
  • Design multimodal learning approaches that fuse image data with time‑series sensor data for monitoring powder bed fusion processes
  • Develop and maintain research codebases for training, evaluation, and deployment of machine learning models
Profile Required Experience
  • CH/EU/EFTA citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland
  • Pursuing a master’s degree (university) in robotics, electrical or mechanical engineering, or CS
  • Solid knowledge of computer vision and ML, particularly anomaly detection methods
  • Experience with multimodal data (e.g., image + time series, sensor fusion) is a strong advantage
  • Strong programming skills in Python (e.g., PyTorch)
  • Experience with data processing, visualization, and experimentation workflows
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes or industrial monitoring systems is a plus
  • Good foundation in linear algebra, probability, and optimization
  • Excellent knowledge (written/oral) of English is required;
    German is beneficial
Required people skills
  • Highly self‑organized and structured working style with strong problem‑solving ability
