About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Linux Endpoint Engineer to take full ownership of a Linux workstation fleet for R&D users. This role is focused on Linux endpoints (not servers) and requires strong expertise with Ubuntu, and ideally Nix/NixOS, to support developer workstations, enforce security standards, and maintain reliable, repeatable configurations.

You will independently manage the complete lifecycle of Linux endpoints-from provisioning to configuration, updates, and decommissioning-while providing hands‑on support to engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of Linux endpoints: provisioning, configuration, patching, updates, and decommissioning
• Manage and optimize Ubuntu-based workstations for R&D and developer users
• Implement and operate endpoint management frameworks (e.g., Nix, Ansible, Puppet, Landscape, Fleet
  
  DM)
• Define and enforce security baselines including hardening, encryption, certificates, VPN, and network configurations
• Troubleshoot complex issues on developer workstations and ensure high system reliability
• Balance developer flexibility with corporate standards and security requirements
• Drive continuous improvements, automation, and documentation for endpoint management
• Collaborate closely with engineering and security teams

Must-Have Skills

• Proven hands-on experience managing Linux workstations/endpoints, not just servers
• Strong expertise with Ubuntu on end-user devices
• Experience with Nix or NixOS in a workstation context (highly preferred)
• Practical knowledge of endpoint configuration/update tools (e.g., Nix, Ansible, Puppet, Landscape, Fleet tools)
• Deep understanding of security hardening, encryption, VPN, certificates, networking
• Experience supporting developers in R&D or engineering environments
• Highly independent, proactive mindset with strong communication skills
