As a GSM‑R Radio Engineer in Zürich & Belp, you will be part of a dynamic team focused on enhancing railway communication for SBB in Switzerland. Embrace a hybrid work model, splitting your time between the office in Zürich, our test lab in Belp, and on‑site installations. You’ll engage in hands‑on activities such as installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting (including software upgrades, logfile and protocol analyses), collaborating closely with experienced radio engineers and subcontractors.
The role involves participating in emergency standby services approximately every six weeks, ensuring the safety and reliability of railway networks. You will conduct end‑to‑end testing, software updates, and interact with customers, providing meaningful challenges and rewards.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn- Act as the key liaison with railway customers, enhancing their experience in Radio Access technologies across all service areas.
- Focus on maintenance and care activities.
- Troubleshoot and replicate errors in the lab to improve product functionality and significantly boost customer satisfaction.
- Conduct comprehensive site audits and surveys, ensuring service delivery meets both quality standards and safety compliance.
- Use advanced measurement equipment to gather data for identifying and resolving network issues effectively on‑site.
- Coordinate efforts with subcontractors and third‑party suppliers to ensure smooth project execution and effective communication.
- Engage in FRMCS pilot projects, offering innovative solutions while collaborating with R&D teams for future advancements.
- Collaborate closely with a tight‑knit team to test software updates, analyze network performance, and significantly enhance user experiences.
- Diploma/Master in telecommunication/electrotechnology or similar.
- Fluent in English and German (minimum C1 level);
French is a plus. - Minimum 5 years of Radio Access experience with strong 2G GSM‑R knowledge.
- Experience in commissioning, integration, and testing of Nokia Base stations and related systems.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and performing software updates on radio equipment on‑site.
- Experience adhering to railroad‑specific safety regulations (GSM‑R).
- Familiarity with 5G Radio and FRMCS.
- Experience in leading and coordinating subcontractors.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in mixed local and virtual teams.
- Experience with Nokia GSM‑R environment e.g. Nokia’s Base station Talk‑Family, Flexi Multiradio 10, BTS / BSC / RNC / MSC / Node B / Net Act / Manta Ray.

Availability for night and weekend work and participation in local on‑call service (6–8 assignments per year) is necessary.
