Assistant Professorship with Tenure Track in Architectural History 100 %

The University of Zurich invites applications for an assistant professorship with tenure track in Architectural History starting on 1 February 2028. After two temporary three‑year contracts the position will become tenured on the condition that the candidate passes the evaluation process.

The future holder is expected to conduct internationally visible research in architectural history and have relevant teaching experience. In teaching, the candidate should cover major areas from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. Current approaches to cultural and art history are welcome. In research, the focus should be one of the following areas: architecture as cultural heritage, function and reception of architecture, architectural theory, digitality and mediality of architecture, history of architecture in transcultural comparison, sustainability and environmental history.

The professorship requires collaboration in research and teaching with other professorships at the Department of Art History, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and with national and international institutions. Applicants must have completed their doctorate at the time of application, have further academic achievements relevant to the field, and have begun a habilitation project or equivalent second research project. Experience in acquiring third-party funding is required.

Teaching may be carried out in English or German. Non‑German‑speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of appointment.

We are an equal‑opportunity employer committed to diversity in research and teaching. Applications from candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged.

The closing date for applications is 18 March 2026. For additional information contact Prof. Dr. Bärbel Küster.
