Overview
The Maintenance Technician Specialist supports the Fed Ex Industrial maintenance of material handling through advanced knowledge and skills in all disciplines relating to the material handling system. The Maintenance Tech Specialist is the subject matter expert on all aspects of the material handling system and its interconnected support systems in the domiciled facility. The specialist is responsible for the design and implementation of training and development programs for site-specific equipment, collaborating with vendors, integrators, manufacturers, installers, and corporate support teams to ensure resources are available locally and that technicians are trained in maintenance, troubleshooting, and operators are instructed in the correct use of the material handling system.
The Maintenance Tech Specialist will mentor lower level technicians.
- Under minimal supervision, provide preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of material handling systems with proficiency in mechanical power transmission, electrical and PLC/controls with advanced welding/fabrication
- Adhere to safety standards and promote a safe work environment by attending safety meetings and required trainings and addressing safety concerns
- Follow and create procedures related to maintenance of site-specific equipment and processes following Fed Ex standards
- Interpret data from predictive tools and control systems to determine department and operation needs
- Diagnose and repair complex problems with any system in the facility
- Interpret electrical or mechanical schematics, manufacturer manuals and engineering specifications to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair faults or determine escalation
- Respond to sort calls to diagnose problems and make repairs
- Utilize Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to enter and retrieve prescribed data
- Diagnose skill gaps of lower-level technicians and develop and implement training programs
- Mentor and assist lower-level technicians
- Develop scopes of work and project plans for small-scale local projects and lead projects with cross-shift teams; create and implement projects to train and develop departmental staff
- May work a flexible schedule including all days and shifts as the business needs dictate
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics, electrical or mechanical trades or related area and an associate degree are preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Four (4) years of industrial maintenance with proficiency in mechanical power transmission, electrical and working knowledge of PLC/controls and welding/fabrication. Related certificates and degrees may be assessed for relevancy.

: Ability to follow procedures, interpret electrical or mechanical schematics and manuals, utilize EAM software, solve mechanical or electrical problems, diagnose transmission, electrical or PLC/controls issues, communicate effectively with peers, management, and vendors, and collaborate with departments and support teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other web-based applications; strong time management and organizational skills.
