Facilitates the delivery of perioperative nursing care by assisting the surgeon in achieving desired surgical outcomes.
- Assists with procedures by providing appropriate method of wound exposure.
- Assists with procedures by providing adequate hemostasis.
- Protects patient by demonstrating knowledge of safe tissue handling.
- Assists with procedures by demonstrating knowledge of suturing techniques.
- Assists with procedures by demonstrating knowledge of wound dressing and drains.
Assists with procedures by demonstrating knowledge and skill in postoperative subcutaneous injections of local anesthesia as directed by the surgeon.
Supports the department by providing direct patient care, evaluating outcomes and adjusting nursing care processes to adhere to legal, ethical, and clinical standards.
- Assures optimum conditions by monitoring and controlling the surgical environment.
- Protects patient by creating and maintaining a sterile field.
- Assists surgical team by providing equipment and supplies based on patient needs, maintaining working knowledge of equipment and checking function prior to use.
Assists in procedures by performing sponge, needle and instrument counts per policy.
Functions in role of CRNFA for various surgical procedures:
- positioning of patient
- draping
- tissue handling
- wound exposure and closure
- homeostasis
- knot tying
- Minimum Education:
- Minimum Experience:
Two years’ experience in Surgery or completion of approved training course - Req. Certification/Licensure:
Current State Illinois Registered Nurse License - CPR
- Pref. Certification/Licensure: ACLS
- Completed RNFA through accredited program/Certification
- AORN certification preferred
