Qualifications
- Master's Degree with major study in speech pathology and audiology
- Valid Ohio pupil services speech language pathologist license
- Experience with early childhood children and school-age children preferred
- Valid Ohio driver's license or have transportation to off-site job related functions
- Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
Under general supervision, constructs and implements individual education plans for students with speech and/or language disorders, conducts evaluations required to determine eligibility for services and to document student progress toward goals and objectives; participates in parent conferences to share information pertaining to student progress; and provides support to the staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)
- Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Provide direct, indirect and consultative speech services to students with a documented deficit in the communication area
- Assist in the evaluation process of students with suspected speech, hearing and language delays and/or in the reevaluation of assigned students
- Prepare and implement individual educational plans containing present levels of performance, annual goals including short term objectives, a statement of the specific educational service, the projected date of initiation and anticipated duration of such services, and the appropriate objective criteria and evaluation procedures
- Write lesson plans that reflect the content of the annual goals and short term objectives of the IEP and encompass skills that will lead to independence as an adult
- Establish and maintain a daily system of documentation/information collection to verify implementation of individual student progress toward goals and objectives relating to language, articulation, fluency and/or voice
- Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for speech/language improvement and listening activities
- Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families regarding speech, hearing and language development
- Communicate and cooperate with the classroom instructional and administrative staff on an ongoing basis
- Travel to program sites and/or homes of students to provide instruction or assessment activities
- Assist in the proper referral of individuals and communicate as appropriate to agencies and specialists within the community
- Complete written reports as assigned by the administration in an accurate and timely manner
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
- Maintain required license(s)
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
- Initially complete 6 hours of training in First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Prevention of Child Abuse and assume responsibility for periodic updates
