We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as an Electrician, working with the Department of Utilities.
This ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining Water and Wastewater (W/WW) electrical equipment and systems using technical skills, mechanical proficiency, and knowledge of electrical systems.
- Locates and repairs electrical problems in W/WW facilities in accordance with mechanical and electrical codes; works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Performs electrical repair and maintenance activities within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Maintains W/WW electrical equipment and systems using technical skills, mechanical proficiency and knowledge of electrical systems; inspects work to verify compliance to quality and safety standards.
- Inspects, tests, calibrates, installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems, components, and devices; reads and interprets diagrams, schematics and blueprints; prepares project cost estimates.
- Examines equipment malfunctions to determine cause and troubleshoot actual and potential problems.
- Examines components to be repaired and determines the proper repair techniques; studies schematics to determine needed repairs or replacement of components; replaces faulty components, and tests finished job to determine system capability; updates wiring diagrams as needed.
- Inspects a variety of electrical equipment; assures equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes; maintains and updates daily log of activities; keeps current on issues and trends in electrical and electronic equipment.
- Installs, repairs, calibrates, and updates electrical wiring, fixtures, instruments, motors, pumps, generators, and specialty equipment and components; discusses scope of problems with supervisor, and recommends repair methods and techniques to correct problems and maintain system stability.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; responds to emergencies as needed.
- Confers with mechanics, technicians, plant operations personnel, and outside services to coordinate planned installation, repair, and preventive maintenance work.
- Recognizes abnormally operating equipment, and uses advanced troubleshooting methods and skills to diagnose and analyze conditions, and recommend required repairs.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND four years experience as a skilled industrial electrician and completion of an electrical apprenticeship program: OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge Of- City policies and procedures.
- National Electrical Code and other local and state regulations and codes.
- Theories and principles of electrically operated valves, pumps, electrical motors, and controls.
- Principles, practices, and safety and quality standards for electrical system repair and maintenance.
- Functions and servicing requirements of W/WW plant machinery and equipment.
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions in a W/WW utility plant.
