GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Interface with harvesting crews, provide quality control supervision, responsible to provide highest level yields within harvesting crops. Manage appropriate labor requirements to harvest product volumes in a timely and cost efficient manner.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:- Supervise Bud and Non-Bud harvesting crews assuring consistency in quality and pack.
- Oversee labor productivity of harvesting crews.
- Ability to plan for future harvest.
- Determine when field haul equipment should be dispatched to a field, and how that equipment should enter and exit the harvesting area.
- Accurately complete and on a timely basis the planning and scheduling of the harvest crews.
- Determine the physical location of the harvest crews.
- Communicate orally with crew management, forepersons, and employees and to have adequate written skills to prepare written documentation.
- Make every effort to eliminate any type of safety incident.
- Manage crew labor problems and hold to a minimum no unjustified grievances.
- Maintain harvest equipment in same condition as received, less normal wear and tear.
- Stay in compliance with employee safety and food safety regulations.
- Planning and scheduling of Monthly, weekly and daily harvesting product volumes.
- Work with Farm Grower by providing harvest dates and coordinate with them on irrigation and other crop need for an efficient good quality harvest.
- Work in coordination with sales office providing Monthly, weekly and daily harvesting estimation with harvest volumes.
- Provide training and assisting information to crew's forepersons to follow and comply with all Food Safety Requirements and GMPs as required to deliver a safe product to customers.
- Maintain records of all issues related to harvesting problems with the harvesting process on quality, and labor issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience with supervising workers, estimating volumes/yields.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, leadership and analytical skills.
- Minimum computer skills in Microsoft Excel and/or other spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge on providing monthly, weekly and daily harvesting volumes estimation to Department Superintendent.
- Must have the ability to make decisions, maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.
- Must be biliterate in Spanish and must be able to speak and understand English.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to walk on uneven ground.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb on and off harvesting equipment.
- Ability to travel to various harvesting locations and relocate.
- Ability to work long hours and work 7 days a week when necessary.
EDUCATION:
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
- Literate and have mastered the four basic mathematical skills.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a lettuce foreperson or supervisor.
- $87,000 - $90,000 Annually
