Job Summary
This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.
Nature of WorkUnder general supervision, performs complex advanced crime victim services of a technical and highly responsible nature; performs high level of victim notification, manages high victim caseload, and acts as a resource for law enforcement community service referrals; this position has department specific responsibility. Prepares victims for their involvement with the criminal justice system; explains constitutional and statutory Crime Victims' Rights through written and verbal notification;
provides support to advocacy services and updates on case status; may assist with training, instruction, and orientation to new employees in the absence of the supervisor; may participate in interviewing and selecting new employees; responsible for sending letter notifications and verbally advising victims in regards to the classification of the case; and update case files as necessary; prepares correspondence to all victims throughout the court process (i.e. Initial Packet, Conditions of Release Hearing, Comprehensive Management Conference, Final Management Conference, Change of Plea Hearing, Sentencing Hearing, Sentencing Disposition, and etc.);
formats and types letters, memoranda, and various notification for victims; prepares and processes confidential and sensitive documents; assists in developing and implementing administrative and personnel policies and procedures; serves as a liaison for victims/witnesses throughout the criminal justice process between the assigned victim services advocate, law enforcement and prosecutors; maintains computerized databases, office records and files; oversees the filing systems;
Supports the efforts of the County Attorney's criminal prosecutors and staff in fulfilling the office's purposes and responsibilities toward victims of crime; works closely with Criminal and Juvenile Division and Misdemeanor Unit to successfully notify victims and keep updated database; reviews assigned caseload calendar (checking court calendar for the following day and making sure to coordinate with Judicial Assistant, Bailiff and Secretary of victim cases);
responsible for opening and closing and follows up on cases to ensure timely progress;
Communicates with clients in a culturally competent way, utilizing translational services when necessary; speaks to other agencies and representatives on behalf of the victim to ensure rights and to provide assistance when deemed necessary; compiles reports and summaries of work; answers routine and extraordinary questions from the public; prepares and processes confidential and sensitive documents; maintain high standards of confidentiality;
regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of experience in fast-pace legal office setting or high level of case management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; requires successful completion of a background check.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
County policies and procedures; victims' rights statutes and criminal justice processes; methods, objectives, and standard practices for advocacy and case management; criminal justice system procedures and legal terminology; business English, spelling, arithmetic, punctuation and grammar; office computer hardware and software applications.
Skill in:
Prioritizing work assignments to meet time constraints; using computers and advanced level software applications; communicating clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; maintaining confidentiality; meeting and dealing tactfully with the public; making data entry with speed and accuracy; maintaining records and preparing reports; following written and verbal instructions.
Ability to:
Be courteous, positive and helpful with victims, the general public and other agencies' staff members, interacting in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner on behalf of the County Attorney's Office; maintain confidentiality of victim information obtained in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes; effectively respond to phone calls, emails and complaints in a timely manner; plan, prioritizes, manages and responds to multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment;
read, write, research, synthesizes data and detailed reports; planning and organizing work. Ability to use modern office equipment and computers; communicate effectively verbally and written; lift up to 5 – 25 lbs.
