Summary:
The Core Laboratory Manager provides leadership to the Chemistry/Urinalysis, Hematology/Coagulation and Evening and Night shift team comprised of Medical Technologists (MT), Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT), Medical Lab Assistant (MLA),and Technical Assistant;
Directs the Core Lab team to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and staff by ensuring excellence in all aspects of laboratory operations;
Ensures appropriate staffing and productivity levels, develops/monitors performance and productivity improvement, safety, quality and regulatory standards;
Ensures excellence in customer service and achievement of budgetary goals; manages continuous improvement of section's processes and functions;
Directs fiscal management of the section, including forecasting and monitoring of operating performance;
Identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of service;
Directs the management of section's human resources and employee relations;
Provides on-going training and professional development of staff. Adheres to state and federal rules and regulations; ensures compliance with CAP, federal, state and local agencies;
Performs clinical and related duties as required. Reports to Admin Director, Laboratory.
Responsibilities:
1. Develops through an integration of ideas of those involved, an organized tactical plan to achieve both short and long-term objectives for the section.
2. Communicates plan to obtain commitment by the responsible individuals.
3. Accountability:
Establishes goals for subordinates that support Departmental goals.
4. Establishes measurement tools to track progress towards personal and subordinates' goals.
5. Demonstrates a personal accountability for financial results through mindful execution of section's budget;
6. Engages staff in efforts to contain costs and improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of services.
7. Understands the basics of health care financial management.
8. Assists in establishing section's budget targets, holds self and other individuals accountable for compliance with annual budget plan;
9. Identifies program or service growth opportunities and methodologies to enhance revenues.
10. Ensure individual actions contribute to the overall good of the institution;
11. Understands and is able to communicate how individual and section goals overlap with YRMC's goals;
12. Demonstrates commitment for the good of the organization while maintaining congruence with commitment to the section;
13. Recognizes and uses information about organizational climate and key individuals to accomplish legitimate organizational goals;
14. Understands the importance of timing, politics and group processes in managing change;
15. Balances section needs with the hospital needs and reconciles the two without sacrificing the critical needs of either.
