Summary The VP & Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) is responsible for leading and managing the pharmacy services across Onvida Health’s multiple campuses, including inpatient, outpatient, and clinical pharmacy operations. This role ensures strategic growth and alignment of pharmacy services with the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term objectives. The VP & CPO will provide executive leadership in pharmacy operations, fiscal management, quality improvement, and human resources management, while ensuring exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and continuous innovation within the department.
The role includes overseeing all pharmacy-related functions across the system and driving integrated, collaborative strategies for service-line expansion, clinical support, and new opportunities for growth.
- Planning/Vision: provide vision, strategic planning, and direction; communicate strategy to obtain commitment from responsible individuals.
- Accountability: lead strategic planning for the department and integrate plans with the medical center; evaluate programs and emerging technologies; develop and implement long-term strategic plans aligned with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with system leadership, physicians, and clinical operations managers to evaluate emerging healthcare trends, technologies, and expansion opportunities.
- Lead multi-campus pharmacy services strategies with integration across service lines and alignment with clinical and business goals.
- Promote the role of pharmacy in the broader healthcare system, focusing on new service areas, market expansion, and value-based care.
- Fiscal Management: develop and manage annual budget; involve staff in cost containment and efficiency initiatives; understand healthcare financial management.
- Oversee department budget, cost containment, revenue growth, and financial sustainability; implement financial tracking processes; collaborate with finance to identify revenue opportunities.
- Customer Service: ensure excellent service to patients, physicians, employees, and other customers; maintain open, respectful communication and build credibility with stakeholders; serve as primary spokesperson for pharmacy services in community outreach and public relations.
- Operational Management / Quality: oversee pharmacy operations to deliver high-quality patient care within budget; develop processes compliant with organizational goals; champion continuous quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
- System Thinking: integrate pharmacy services across service lines; maintain collaboration with nursing, clinical operations, and senior leadership; implement evidence-based practices for clinical care, patient safety, and operational performance.
- Human Resources Management: lead recruitment, development, and retention of pharmacy staff; partner with HR to plan for staffing needs; foster open communication and an empowered team; ensure staff meet organizational values and competencies.
- Community: leverage system capabilities to improve value for customers; promote community involvement and partner with internal and external stakeholders; advocate for expanded pharmacy services and community benefit initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
Pharm.
D. or equivalent advanced pharmacy degree;
Arizona Pharmacist license;
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmacy leadership, including managing multiple campuses or service lines; at least 3 years of supervisory and strategic management experience in a health system.
