Summary
The Medical Lab Assistant is responsible for laboratory clerical, technical, and inventory management support while adhering to standards of practice and universal precautions. Performs expanded laboratory clerical and technical pre‑analytical and post‑analytical duties in support of laboratory area.
Responsibilities
- Performs pre‑analytical and post‑analytical duties, prepares, tracks, loads and reports samples/specimens in compliance with department policy.
- Works closely with technologists and leadership to resolve specimen handling and tracking issues.
- Assists with correlation/validation, specimen procurement and data entry/transcription.
- Performs department‑specific duties including limited testing and reporting under supervision.
- Adheres to testing procedures, alerts when problems occur.
- Performs daily quality control procedures; checks lot numbers, expiration dates, calibrates instruments; reconstitutes QC material.
- Conducts preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments, documents temperatures and maintenance.
- Assists Clinical Supervisor with QA reports, monthly reports and clerical duties.
- Tracks inventory counts, places supply orders, checks incoming reagents, stocks and rotates supplies, exercises fiscal responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- High School Diploma / GED equivalency
- Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) certification
