Position: PT - EMS Instructor (Certified Paramedic)

Overview

PT - EMS Instructor (Certified Paramedic)

Teaches EMS Skills and Lectures for the EMT/Paramedic Programs, ensuring that lectures adhere to all applicable regulating agencies and guidelines.

Typical Duties
  • Serves students. Teach EMS and EMT/Paramedic courses as required. Instructors are responsible for the daily operation of the program, which includes lecturing, project management, and the assignment of reinforcement work for students. May teach evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Creation and implementation of lesson plans for given lectures. Instructors may be required to create a lesson plan for any given lecture. This includes but is not limited to the creation of lectures, Power Points, and homework assignments. Design, develop, and update program curriculum under the supervision of the course Coordinator.
  • Set up and breakdown of equipment for the use during practical skills training. Instructors are required to teach skills in accordance with the Educational Standards and the course syllabi. Instructors teach through both lecture and practical hands-on education. Courses may include theory, practical application, skills training, or live scenarios
  • Promotes EMS programs through local, regional, and national partners. Serve on local and state committees as directed by the Director of Public Safety Institute.
  • Working with the Director of EMS and Course Coordinator, coordinate regular reviews of the program to ensure effectiveness and alignment with the college's mission and values, and in meeting community/workforce needs. Identify student learning outcomes; develop processes and tools for assessment; incorporate student data to modify instructional materials.
  • Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree, certificate, licensure at the highest level being taught, OR
  • Qualify under the occupational experience requirement for career, technical, and professional credential fields with three full-time years (or equivalent). Documentation of work experience must demonstrate currency and relevance to the course content and student learning outcomes with the following experience:
    • More than three full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in the specific credential field, AND
    • One year of which the work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field, OR
    • Three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-secondary teaching experience in the credential field within the past five years
  • Meet qualifications as outlined under institutional procedure, Faculty Credentials
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Certified and in good standing with the National Registry of EMTs or state certification as a Paramedic
  • Two years EMT/Paramedic or RN experience
  • Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent
  • Note:

    Preferred but not required - At least two years of experience as a full-time equivalent instructor in an EMT/Paramedic Program

  • Up to 19 hours per week
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications, especially those specific to the department operations
  • Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one’s own time
  • Skill and proficiency in planning and delivering engaging and effective instruction
  • Skill in creating and grading assessments that accurately measure student learning
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
