Overview
GENERAL PURPOSE Under the direction of the Special Operations Supervisor, the Aquatic Fitness Instructor will be responsible for the planning and organization of specific City of Yukon Aquatic Fitness classes. This position will follow all City of Yukon procedures when executing classes to ensure that safety guidelines are followed. This position includes morning and evening work.
Responsibilities- Prepares detailed lesson plans and gathers necessary materials to teach all levels of instruction
- Explains, demonstrates, and critiques movements in the water and on deck
- Interacts and relates to all ages and abilities
- Develops a personal rapport with members and guests, motivating them to participate in fitness classes
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment, which includes ensuring that equipment is put away after each class
- Choreographs exercise sessions including warm up, aerobic exercise, cool down, and stretch
- Customizes session if participants are injured, elderly, pregnant, or have a physical disability
- Keeps daily attendance records of participants
- Performs rescue assists as necessary
- Provides information to the public and patrons in a professional and courteous manner
- Keeps pool deck, bath houses, and general area clear of debris and in working order at all times
- Assists with documenting accidents and incidents that occur within the facility
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Accurately reports time worked by clocking in and out of each shift
- 18 years of age or older
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification from a nationally accredited agency
- One current water fitness certification:
FiTOUR, YMCA, AFAA, ACSM, or AEA - Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate skills required while using teaching aids
- Previous instructing experience
- Previous experience working with a variety of age groups
- Must be in good physical condition
- Good vision to be able to watch for emergency situations in and around pool
- Work in variety of weather conditions including heat, rain, and wind
- Exposure to allergy causing agents
- Subject to working in a confined area near others
- Ability to withstand heat, wind, and direct sunlight for long periods of time
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, or using a telephone for extended periods of time
- Exposed to intermittent or continued loud and insistent noises
- Exposed to slippery and uneven surfaces
- Must have strength to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing 25 pounds or more
- Mobility to frequently move one's body from place to place
- Hearing and speech to communicate clearly and distinctly in English, by telephone and in person, within the confinement of a semi-noisy environment.
