General Description of Position
The purpose of the position is to handle purchase orders, accounts payable, general ledger, and budget preparation. This position also functions as the assistant purchasing agent, to handle competitive bids/quotes; and all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Finance Director.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPurchase Order processing, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Fixed Assets Inventory, Credit card reconciliation, Financial Reports as needed, 1099 and W-9 forms, Bid Specifications, Bid Openings
High school diploma or equivalent. Associate s degree preferred; 3 to 5 years experience in accounts payable or related field; experience working with computers and excel spreadsheets; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skill and AbilityKnowledge – Advanced knowledge of the municipal administration process, general knowledge of the function of municipal government, general understanding of the interaction between local, state and federal government, basic working knowledge of business administration practices, general office procedures and applicable local, state and federal laws. Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and methods and ability to adapt to established methods to varied accounting transactions.
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
Skills – Excellent customer service and organization skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills including but not limited to MS Office applications,
Ability – Ability to plan, organize and collaborate with others, ability to communicate effectively, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all city employees, and the general public; ability to perform detailed work involving written and numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports as needed.
Software Skills RequiredFamiliarity with Incode Governmental Accounting software is preferred. The ability to use Incode software is required.
