About the role

Choice Water Solutions is hiring a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to support multiple small facilities across Riverside and San Bernardino counties. This is a route-based role with a flexible day-to-day schedule, but it requires strong independence, good documentation habits, and comfort driving between sites.

You must hold a California SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate Grade I (or higher) at the time of hire.

We provide a company truck and company card for fuel and job-related expenses.

Sites and systems

You’ll support a mix of small wastewater facilities, including extended aeration and tertiary treatment systems (and recycled water components at select sites, as applicable).

What you’ll do
  • Perform assigned plant rounds and site checks; inspect equipment and processes, document readings, and identify issues early
  • Monitor and adjust treatment processes and equipment (pumps, blowers, motors, valves, chemical feed, disinfection, instrumentation)
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and alarms; coordinate response and follow-through
  • Maintain accurate operations logs, sampling records, and compliance documentation; complete routine calculations tied to operations and reporting
  • Collect wastewater samples and run routine field or bench tests as required by permits and monitoring plans; coordinate with outside laboratories and track results
  • Handle wastewater treatment chemical feed and related equipment safely, including preparation, dosing, and change-outs as applicable (for example: soda ash, lime, polymers, alkalinity or pH control chemicals, and supplemental disinfection products), and maintain accurate chemical usage and inventory records in line with permit and safety requirements.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs (lubrication, minor mechanical work, replacing/servicing small components, keeping facilities clean and functional)
  • Coordinate vendors and contractors (for example: sludge pumping, pumper truck scheduling, parts procurement, outside service calls) and oversee work quality on-site when needed
  • Communicate professionally with clients and site contacts, answer questions, and elevate issues clearly and promptly
Requirements
  • California SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate Grade I or higher
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Ability to work independently across multiple sites and manage a route efficiently
  • Strong documentation skills (logs, sampling records, basic calculations)
  • Comfort using a smartphone/tablet for email, photos, and digital forms
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to do hands‑on maintenance
  • Ability to lift and carry typical tools and supplies (up to 50 lbs) and work outdoors in Southern California conditions, around water/wastewater equipment, with appropriate PPE
Preferred (not required)
  • SWRCB Grade II or higher
  • Prior experience with small package plants, extended aeration, tertiary treatment, recycled water compliance, or pump stations
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, online analyzers, data loggers/SCADA (where applicable), and coordinating lab results
  • Confined space, wastewater safety, or relevant OSHA training/certs
  • California drinking water certifications (SWRCB D1 and/or T1) are a strong plus.
  • SIMPLE IRA and SIMPLE IRA matching
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
