Job Description

Applicants in this pool will remain active for two years. After two years applicants will receive an email with information on how to remain in the pool.

  • Education Code §87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he/she/they is free of active tuberculosis.
  • As a condition of employment, the position you are applying for will require that you provide fingerprints to the local police department. The fees charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI for the fingerprint report is the employee’s responsibility.

Job Title: EOPS/CARE Counselor (Part Time)

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction and supervision of the EOPS-CARE Director or dean of student services, the EOPS-CARE Counselor provides academic, career, personal, and crisis counseling; assesses placement tests; develops educational plans; guides students through basic skills, general education, and transfer coursework; implements an academic progress report and follow‑up process; facilitates support for the EOPS-CARE students and collaborates with the implementation of the Student Success and Support Program from a categorical program perspective;

and works closely and collaboratively with the EOPS-CARE Supervisor and staff.

REQUIRED DUTIES: Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

QUALIFICATIONS: EOPS Counselors are those persons designated by the community college to serve as academic counselors in the EOPS program and must possess:

  • Possess a master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, or the equivalent.
  • Have completed a minimum of nine (9) semester units of college coursework predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantage or have completed six (6) semester units or the equivalent of a college‑level counseling practicum or counseling field‑work courses in a community college EOP &S program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages, and have two (2) years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference may be given to candidates with life or teaching experience which would demonstrate the clear ability to provide EOPS / CARE counseling services to community college students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Range/Step Class I - VII (Based on degree and teaching experience).

SALARY RANGE: YCAFT Salary Schedule  YC AFT Contract.

BENEF INFORMATION: PART - TIME (less than .60 FTE ):
Part‑time positions less than .60 FTE are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits.
