Job Overview

The Yuba Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty position. Part‑time instructor positions are filled as needed through ongoing recruitment, with applicants contacted and hired year‑round based on college needs. This pool is open continuously and refreshed every two years. Applicants in this pool will remain active for two years. After two years applicants will receive an email with information on how to remain in the pool.

  • FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS:
    Include a U.S. evaluation and translation.  for a list of acceptable agencies providing foreign transcript services.
  • The District retains the right to extend time limits or initiate the recruitment/selection process anew at any stage.
  • Education Code §87408.6 requires that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he/she/they are free of active tuberculosis.
  • As a condition of employment, the position requires fingerprints to the local police department. Fees for the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI fingerprint report are the employee’s responsibility.
  • Fingerprint clearance must be received prior to the employee’s first day on the job.

Job Description

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Community College teaching experience in ESL reading, writing, grammar, conversation, listening, and speaking. VESL experience in English for Computers, ECE, Math, and/or Employment also desirable.
Required Duties

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis.
  • Bachelor’s in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master’s in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading speech, or any foreign language.
  • Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of English.
  • OR the equivalent (see equivalency requirements).
  • EQUIVALENCY REQUIREMENT:
    All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications specified by the Yuba Community College District by the application filing date or obtain an equivalency determination from the District before the publication of the Recruitment Announcement.  for equivalency application.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of literacy.
  • Interest or experience in curriculum development, professional development, or academic leadership.
  • Knowledge of current issues and educational trends in teaching ESL and/or Basic Skills in a community college setting.
  • Academic preparation and/or experience in teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking in ESL courses.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and classroom assessment practices and their applications.
  • Ability to make effective teaching presentations using appropriate and current pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of community colleges and the responsibilities of faculty in realizing this mission.
  • Experience teaching ESL to adult students.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of continuing professional growth in ESL, Basic Skills, or related areas.
Physical Demands

Range/Step Class I - VII (Based on degree and teaching experience).

Part‑time positions (< 0.60 FTE
) are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits.
