Fiscal Technician I — $20.00 - $25.55;
Fiscal Technician II — $22.55 - $28.79.

Responsibilities

Under general direction, perform a variety of the most difficult and complex technical accounting and statistical record keeping work related to the development, maintenance, and processing of a County department’s fiscal and statistical records; provide information and assistance regarding inquiries; provide lead direction, training, and work coordination for other fiscal support staff; and other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Fiscal Technician I is specialized work requiring substantial background in financial and statistical record keeping; more technical than Fiscal Assistant III and differing from Accountant/Auditor classifications. This is a for‑cause, non‑exempt position.

Fiscal Technician II is the more advanced classification requiring expansive knowledge of fiscal functions and broader county requirements; length of experience and task complexity distinguish it from Fiscal Technician I and III. This is a for‑cause, non‑exempt position.

Reports To

A variety of County supervisory or management positions, depending on department or program area.

Classifications Supervised

This is not a supervisory class. Incumbents may provide work coordination, training, and guidance for department fiscal support staff.

Knowledge of
  • Methods, practices, and terminology of financial and statistical record keeping.
  • Laws, rules, and regulations governing maintenance of fiscal records in the area of assignment.
  • Basic principles and terminology of accounting.
  • Good public relations techniques.
  • Maintenance of files and information retrieval systems.
  • Computerized financial information systems used by the County.
  • Modern office methods and procedures.
  • Principles of lead direction, training, and work coordination.
  • County entity structure and function.
  • Microsoft Office product and other similar software.
Desired Skills
  • Perform complex and technical specialized financial and statistical record keeping work.
  • Provide lead direction, training, and work coordination for other staff.
  • Assist with budget preparation and expenditure control.
  • Read and understand codes, statutes, and information related to financial and statistical record keeping.
  • Gather and organize data and information; prepare financial and statistical reports.
  • Make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Work with computerized financial and specialized information systems; use a computer for financial and statistical record keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and staff; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Special Requirements: Some departments may require possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate California Driver’s License.

Typical Qualifications

Fiscal Technician I — Two years of previous financial and statistical record keeping work experience comparable to that of a Fiscal Assistant III with Siskiyou County.

Fiscal Technician II — Two years of previous financial and statistical record keeping work experience comparable to that of a Fiscal Technician I with Siskiyou County.

Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and fax.

Working Conditions

Office environment with continuous contact with staff and the public. Some positions may have frequent contact with inmates at the County Detention Facility.
