Position Title:
Library Circulation Assistant

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves library users at the circulation desk by charging and discharging library materials, collecting fines, and assisting the public with access to remote online services such as research databases.
- Uses library computer system for various circulation services and functions.
- Provides general information to library users regarding overall library services.
- Provides basic computer and print support.
- Shelves library materials and performs basic stack maintenance.
- Understands, communicates and enforces the library’s circulation policies and procedures.
- Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position will work up to 19 hours per week, with late afternoon and evening hours and weekend hours (August – May).
Physical DemandsAbility to bend, reach and lift tubs of books weighing up to 40 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- High school graduate (or GED equivalent) plus 15 credits of higher education; six or more months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of or ability to learn and use Library of Congress Classification System
- Demonstrated ability in spelling, basic math and accurate record-keeping, accurate alphabetical and numerical filing, telephone etiquette, and data entry skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to prioritize and balance competing needs in a rapid-demand environment
- Ability to complete unsupervised tasks, work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to bend, reach and lift tubs of books weighing up to 40 pounds
- Basic knowledge of library procedures and practices
