The Orientation Graduate Assistant for SOAR (Student Orientation Advising & Registration) supports the Coordinator of Orientation and Transition Programs in planning and implementing events and programs. The Orientation Graduate Assistant works closely with their fellow GA to supervise undergraduate Orientation staff in day-to-day operations, as well as oversee two Student Assistants year round, the Orientation Group Leaders (OGLs) up to and through SOAR programs, and the Connect Logistics Team (LOGIs) during EMU Connect.
Graduate assistants maintain relationships with campus partners and are required to work some evenings and weekends throughout the course of the semester.
- Assist in planning process of SOAR and Orientation Online modules
- Work closely with fellow Orientation GA to functionally supervise undergraduate orientation staff in day-to-day office operations.
- Facilitate team meetings with undergraduate student staff, including 1:1 meetings as needed.
- Supervise the OGLs throughout the SOAR programs.
- Plan and implement OGL training curriculum in collaboration with campus partners.
- Collaborate with University Event Services to reserve locations for OGL and LOGI recruitment and training events.
- Assist with recruitment, program delivery, and assessment of orientation and transition programs.
- Oversee marketing and design of recruitment materials by writing and working with student staff to develop creative recruitment strategies.
- Assist with preparing documentation and payment for orientation-related purchases (e.g. giveaways, t-shirts, rentals).
- Maintain inventory of orientation supplies and promotional materials.
- Work with office staff to maintain high level of communication in-person and via phone and email.
- Conduct research and benchmarking of orientation and transition activities when appropriate.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
This position is set for 20 hours/week. The position will being in May at a summer hourly rate of $16/hour and transition to stipend pay for Fall/Winter semesters at $5,200/semester.
