MDOC employs nearly 1,500 veterans and active military members across the department. The department offers many benefits and services to support military and veteran employees, spouses, and families.

Position Overview

This position assists the dentist in providing dental care to prisoners at the assigned correctional facility. The role may be assigned to dental clinics in other facilities and assists with the overall operations of the dental clinic.

Selective Position Requirement

Possession of a radiography certification is required. The certification involves completion of a dental radiography course taught in a program approved by the Michigan Board of Dentistry, pursuant to Administrative Rule R338.11307.

Test‑Designated Position

Direct contact with prisoners for more than 50% of work time. 100% located within the secure perimeter of a Correctional Facility.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience
  • Dental Aide 6:
    No specific type or amount required.
  • Dental Aide 7:
    One year experience equivalent to Dental Aide 6.
  • Dental Aide E8:
    Two years experience equivalent to Dental Aide, including one year equivalent to Dental Aide 7.
Alternate

Education and Experience

Completion of a one‑year dental assistance program may substitute for the experience requirement.

Special Requirements , Licenses, and Certifications
  • Possession of a radiography certification (as described above).
Legal and Ethical Requirements

Applicants who have been convicted of a felony or have pending felony charges are ineligible for employment with MDOC, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996 and Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants convicted of misdemeanors are ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

All applicants must satisfy MDOC's ethical standards and report any possible conflict of interest. Employment requires a high degree of loyalty and ethical standards to maintain the integrity of state government.
