A registered nurse is needed for a high-acuity stepdown unit serving adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs. This 12-hour night shift position requires strong ventilator experience and comfort managing patients requiring drips such as Cardizem and Amiodarone, as well as insulin drips. Candidates must be skilled in care of patients with tracheostomies, vents, BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow, and Airvo therapies.
The unit specializes in multisystem organ failure and trauma cases, often caring for respiratory, renal, surgical, and trauma patients.
Location:
This role is based in Youngstown, OH, an area known for its community-focused healthcare services. While the position requires relocation, the city offers a blend of small-town charm and urban amenities including parks, cultural sites, and affordable living.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement plans of care, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
- Administer medications safely, following nursing standards and protocols
- Serve as primary care coordinator and liaison for patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Manage complex cases involving multi-organ failure and critical care conditions using evidence-based practices
- Advocate for patient safety and collaborate on quality improvement initiatives
- Support patient and family coping with serious illness or injury, addressing physiological and psychosocial needs
- Current RN license in a compact state or the state of employment
- Minimum 1 year RN experience; strong stepdown or ICU background preferred
- Ventilator management expertise and experience with advanced respiratory modalities
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification required; CCRN or PCCN preferred
- Ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating patient acuity
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities
- 28-bed unit with patient ratios around 1:4-5, supported by CNA staffing
- Float opportunities to lower-acuity units available
- This opportunity is offered on a contract basis and demands relocation
