36 hrs/week and every other weekend and Holiday - D/N rotation and Weekend only shifts available for experienced RNs
The Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates the care of the patient in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team within the nursing process framework. Evaluation is done through data collection, assessment, identification, and prioritization of patient problems/needs including evaluating process/outcome of nursing care, interventions, and teaching. The RN coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.
EssentialJob Functions
- Conducts and analyzes initial and ongoing patient assessment, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness.
- Administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures.
- Serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments.
- Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department and collaborates with spiritual care, palliative, and ethics when needed.
- Serves as a point person for care coordination for family members or caregivers.
- Performs nursing care associated with life supporting technology/modalities including but not limited to ventilator management, CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO.
- Performs hemodynamic monitoring.
- Clinically manages critically ill patients with multi-system organ failure and/or multisystem trauma.
- Uses the AACN Synergy Model to restore, support, promote, rehabilitate, or palliate to maintain stability across the lifespan.
- Synthesizes and prioritizes information to take immediate, evidence-based action using clinical judgement and clinical inquiry.
- Anticipates and responds to rapidly changing patient conditions with confidence.
- Responds to family needs and advocates for choices in quality of life.
- BSMH nurses practice in accordance with the core concepts of the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model.
Current RN license in state of practice or covered by compact (required). BLS and AC LS preferred at hire; must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire. PALS preferred at hire; required in lieu of BLS/AC LS for Pediatric Units. TNCC preferred. CCRN preferred. PCCN preferred. RN-BC preferred. TCRN preferred. NIH Stroke Certification preferred.
EducationBachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Work Experience1 year of RN experience required; 6 months RN experience in a Med/Surg, Critical Care, Stepdown, or Emergency Department Unit preferred.
TrainingEPIC EHR training preferred. Critical Care Course preferred.

- Supports insertion of intra-aortic balloon pumps, chest tubes, and impellas; manages hemodynamics.
- Assists with transvenous pacing and sedation as needed; knowledge of advanced respiratory modalities.
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads; may be exposed to physical altercations, verbal abuse, high noise levels, bright lights, and hazardous substances or body fluids. May require use of restraints. May have periods of constant interruptions. Individuals are required to exercise universal precautions and follow infection control policies.
