Job Description & Requirements

TNAA Total Med RN is seeking a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Youngstown, Ohio. The assignment is 13 weeks, 36 hours per week, 12‑hour night shifts on a travel basis.

As a PCU Travel Nurse, you will care for patients who require close monitoring and frequent assessment but aren’t unstable enough for ICU care. Your role includes monitoring vital signs, interpreting electronic displays, adjusting complex medication regimens – often via intravenous lines – and initiating corrective actions when necessary. The PCU is also known as cardiac step‑down, medical step‑down, neuro step‑down, surgical step‑down, or ER holding.

Responsibilities
  • Provide basic bedside care and stabilize critical cardiac patients.
  • Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.
  • Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpreting and recording electronic displays.
  • Initiate corrective action whenever monitoring equipment indicates adverse symptomatology.

PCU Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for long periods, bend, lean and stoop without difficulty, and lift up to 20 pounds comfortably. In some situations, patient lifting may require up to 50 pounds. The fast‑paced environment demands strong stress‑coping skills and the ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.

  • At least 2 years of recent acute‑care experience

* Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.
